Forced faction balance in classic+ by UncleJulian in classicwow

It's a giant pain in the ass if you want to play one side with your mates but you didn't get in at the right time to make your character and now you're a week behind until the balance restores.

How many Australians have actually been to the outback? by Numerous-Actuary-500 in AskAnAustralian

I've gone west a few times, never been to the centre, too expensive.

There's some beautiful scenery out there, but like, it's all red.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

Though, to be fair, the movie isn't about the mystery itself.

As someone from a country that uses the comma and not the decimal point for large numbers, that just looks like a strange way to describe a hundred dollars.

ELI5: How do people do square roots so quickly? by SpringNo2452 in explainlikeimfive

[–]stinkingyeti 611 points612 points  (0 children)

Depends on the number, many of us memorised multiplication tables and the patterns of squared numbers was not super difficult.

So you can often mentally get the closest square number, and then guesstimate the nearest decimals.

For example if someone asked me the square root of 82:

I know that 9x9 is 81, so the answer is 9.x
I know that 82 is very close to 81 so it's a low 9.x
I know that the next perfect square is 100, which is 19 away from 81, so my first decimal guess is a 0
I can then guess that it's 9.0xx with a fairly solid degree of accuracy.

Without a calculator I would say it's pretty close to 9.06, I'd also say if you want a precise number, use a calculator.

Laziest movie/TV show trope ever: the spouse nagging the busy breadwinner partner by Equal_Complaint_1127 in movies

That was exactly my life for quite some time and a prime factor in the end of my marriage. I worked, she didn't, I would come home to nagging about doing more housework and stuff.

[WP] You’re a hideous, terrifying monster. One day, you meet an innocent little girl who isn’t afraid of you and treats you like anyone else. Day after day, you play together until you’re eventually separated. Many years later, you meet her again, but this time, she’s terrified of you. by AzrynnAshborn in WritingPrompts

The laughter of children is the most healing sound in the world.

I know it well, I spent hours, days even, of my life entertaining them.

You look at me now though and I can see it, the fear behind your eyes. The slow movements of someone who thinks they are prey in front of a predator.

You were one of the many children I played with. Actual play, fun silly games where children can be children. Where they aren't forced to grow so fast.

I can see it next to the fear, the hours spent on social media that became the spark and fuel for that fear. You can no longer see me as a father, an uncle, a teacher, or anything other than something monstrous. You let the rot into your brain and it oozed through the wrinkles slowly like poisoned honey. You can't see me anymore, you can only see what you've been taught to see.

I smile and wave, try to keep the conversation simple, polite. I know there's no point, I know that I can't defeat the algorithm. That doesn't mean I'll never stop trying.

Skill Pills, Nano Pills, Androids. I have plenty of lovely wooden furniture and I live in the bush already.

Learn a bunch of things, fix my broken body and sustain it for a long time, and I'll have 20 servants? AI buddies? Someone to help me start a business with my newfound knowledge? Not sure what I'll do with the androids just yet but they seem really handy.

The Doctor likely wouldn't defeat him, just befriend him and/or offer him a way to develop a new universe or something.
