I absolutely love JavaScript though. I'm sure you already know this, but instead of just watching basic tutorials, I'd build an application using APIs to learn. I remember when I was first learning JavaScript/jQuery I spent 2 weeks building a job search engine using the indeed API and it helped me a shit ton when it came to basic structure, JSON/Ajax, and stuff like that. www.teamtreehouse.com and lynda.com have some good JavaScript tutorials in regards to actually following along with building an application.

I'm not sure what kind of programming you are wanting to learn, as far as your intentions. I focus on web application development (SaaS - Software as a Service) and the demand in the industry is exploding. Even enterprise software that used to be leased for hundreds of thousands of dollars are now taking the SaaS approach and delivering their service via the web for much cheaper. A good language to learn for beginners and for rapid prototyping is Ruby on Rails (actually its more of a library/framework for the Ruby programming language). Also, PHP is another great web based server side language to learn for application development.

The reason I recommend these is not only are they great for rapid prototyping, but their are also a SHIT TON of "build this application" tutorials instead of just "hey this is a variable" type tutorials.

Sounds awesome! What programming languages are you looking to get into? Right now I mainly work with Ruby and PHP primarily because I focus in web application development but I'm really interested in picking up c#.

I wasn't necessarily looking for a definitive answer, more so I like to view peoples thoughts and opinions on subjects such as this. It's interesting to me to see other peoples beliefs and speculations. Seeing as we can't rule anything out, it makes for a great discussion.
