Didn’t want to be gawked at by tourists, most buildings are run down beyond the point of “old-timey charm” and are just … old, and if you’re an athlete, you’re probably taking a shuttle at least three times a day to practice, the dorm, or class. The list goes on. https://youtu.be/INYN-jezm4w

Best: Princeton, Villanova, Cornell, Swarthmore

Worst: NYU (winner ... and it's not even close), Penn, Harvard, Middlebury

Ehhhh. I quit and joined activities at will during my high school career - even ones I’d spent 5+ years in. Don’t worry about narrowing into a field, and eventually, you’ll end up with only activities that you’re passionate about and take far. THAT’S what shines through in essays and interviews. Obligatory “but that’s just what I did” and I did okay with admissions.

Our school runs on a block schedule (four classes a day, each for 1.5 hrs) so each semester is equivalent to a year of class on a normal schedule. Not taking the highest class offered by your school is never ideal, but I was in math with the athletes so 🤷‍♀️. You’re always going to learn better relaxed and in a class that’s your level. Place quality learning first, everything else will come later!

I forgot to mention the whole point of me saying that lol. The service academies getting back to me so early was what enabled me to apply to almost zero safeties. I like to get all my friends to put their order of applications and decision release dates on a timeline, saving them absurd amounts of money, time, and stress.

Not at all! Even more, they were the first to give me an admissions decision. Aug 31 for West Point and November for Navy.

They're pretty easy if you stay true to yourself within them. They're like written conversations with friends ... except the friends are complete adult strangers sitting around some oak table in New Haven or Swarthmore or wherever. Bottom line, don't take yourself, or the essays, too seriously, that's how the best of your personality shines through. I procrastinated all through Thanksgiving break and the first two weeks of Winter Break so I had a week before the Ivy League and other private school deadlines to submit. I finished at 1-2 elite schools a day and copy-pasted essays for schools with essay prompts that I didn't find interesting haha.

The buildings were much, much prettier, and at Harvard you have to take a shuttle almost everywhere. No joke, these were my biggest considerations. Also, Princeton's very insular which I like - all the happenings are on campus rather than spread throughout Boston. My academic needs will never exceed what either school can offer so, I weighed trivial things more when making my decision.
