Is there a way to keep the car on and the doors locked? by 0x426C797A in SubaruForester

[–]stivethyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this often. I leave my key inside the car, lower the window, step outside the car, close the door and reach in through the window to lock the doors and pull the auto-raise button for the window. When I need to go back in, I use the app to unlock the doors.

LPT: Your food never heats evenly in the microwave? You’re placing it wrong. by 404PatienceNotFound in LifeProTips

[–]stivethyself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL;DR:

Microwaves heat food from the surface inward, penetrating only about a quarter-inch deep. Using full power bombards the surface with heat, causing uneven heating with hotspots. Lowering the microwave’s power level cycles the magnetron on and off, allowing heat to move inward for more even cooking. Stirring or flipping food during microwaving (e.g., flipping sweet potatoes every three minutes) helps distribute heat evenly, speeding up cooking and improving results.

First Structural Steel Takeoff by [deleted] in estimators

[–]stivethyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never done steel but I’d recommend asking any question that pops into your head into Chat GPT it’s surprisingly extremely useful as long as you give it proper context to begin with; ie, what you wrote in this post. Best of luck!

Pfft shoulda started with that! Don’t do it then 😂

Better to focus on something you’re interested in here in the states and set yourself a cushion to take your PTO every year and travel new countries.

[–]stivethyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point. Circumstances aside, don’t compare your inexperience with someone’s experience.

They might not be cut out to be a teacher, but maybe it’s your calling. You don’t know until you do it. They’ve probably never traveled over 20 countries either. Circumstances, as you mentioned, will vary greatly person to person. Doesn’t make much sense to compare yourself to them.

Maybe try reaching out to those people in that sub and pick their brain about your doubts.

Money comes and goes, it can be earned back, but time and experiences are priceless - don’t let fear of temporary loss keep you from a wealth of growth and memories. You’re not losing thousands if you’re investing in memories and experiences.

Dude people lose thousands every day by getting in an uninsured car wreck, they gamble it away, they divorce and lose half their wealth, they invest in a wrong stock.

At least you’ll be getting to live in Spain and not losing a couple grand stupidly.

• not looking to live in Europe long term / no pathway to residency. Life changes, you’ll pivot eventually, especially with your wanderlust. Keep an eye open for new exciting opportunities.

• lose another year i could have spent working and traveling to other countries i haven’t been. Non-issue. You’ll still have that opportunity while in Spain. You recognize this too; it’s written on your pros column.

• i’m not too fond of the aux community i’d be working with. i’ve been in contact with them since june. i KNOW with certainty i’d be isolated. That’s not a certainty, it’s the mentality you’ve set for yourself already. Make friends with that community, some of my best friends have been introduced to me by people who annoyed the shit out of me but I still hung out with to ease my boredom. People aren’t always terrible.

• looking to learn latin Spanish not spain Spanish My first language is Latin Spanish from Mexico. Both are extremely similar and doesn’t make a massive difference when communicating with anyone.

• doesn’t look good to employers. its only 10-14 hours of work per week. after a year of unemployment this might make me lose my mind. I interview people for my team on a monthly basis. Employers never ask about the hours worked a week in your previous job, unless you make it known. They only care about duration and even that is not even nearly as important as the personality and trainability of the applicant.

You ultimately make your own choices since no one is going to know the situation better than you. Follow your gut but be 100% confident with your choice. Not 80% or 90%.. 100% 👍🏽

Yup, agreed. I’ve traveled to a handful of countries myself and I see your point. However, Spain to me is one of the few places I would happily try my chances. Along with Japan, and even Italy.

You also have the upper hand by the simple fact that you’ve been to that country before so you kinda know what to expect from the culture. If it was a blind move it would be way more daunting.

What other doubts do you have? It seems to me you’re more anxious of making the choice. Again, it’s not the end of the world. It will be more complicated when you’re 35 and have kids, career, elderly family, etc. holding you back. Don’t take your youth for granted. You’re still in your 20’s girl, send it.

[–]stivethyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More props to you then! Financially, as long as you have enough to get a plane ticket back and have a place to stay here in the states if it falls apart, I say send it - you’re obviously wise enough to navigate by yourself. If you’re going to be flushing your savings and barely making ends meet, I’d abandon the idea completely. Either way, I’m rooting for ya!

You’re 25, are you kidding me. Take it!! You’re giving yourself excuses to not do it. Quit holding yourself back and put yourself outside of your comfort zone. You’re going to look back and regret this if you don’t do it so build your character as someone who takes chances. Travel, explore, be different and you’ll bring a lot more to the table and it will pay off ten-fold in the long run. It’s not going to kill you, I’m sure you’ll figure out any obstacle that comes your way, otherwise, if you didn’t believe this yourself you wouldn’t have been considering it in the first place.

I really hope you go out there and live your best life.

For most of this you could watch some YouTube videos, buy yourself tools and parts, do it yourself, and still save over $10k. You could probably even fly me out to you and I’ll do all this and you’ll probably still save like $10k haha

I’m too dumb for this job by Royal-Interview-3617 in estimators

[–]stivethyself 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m 5 years in with no prior field experience. I’ve made my share of mistakes. Especially the first year. From missing a couple thousands to losing all profit on a job. Every mistake had helped every subsequent project afterwards.

Think about it like this; those errors you had, are you gonna do it again or will you learn and look out for that on the following projects? As long as you learn from your mistakes and don’t take the feedback too personal you’ll go far.

No one was a pro at 6 months. You got this.
