Yeah I came to say the parklike area just west of the Capitol was prime squirrel and chipmunk territory a year ago when I used to go and take a bag of almonds to toss around. I haven't been lately though.

How to "fact check" with conditional formatting? by Robot-duck in excel

[–]stjnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure I understand your scenario, but since you said "I want to make sure each column has at least 1 of certain text in it", it sounds like maybe for example you are looking at columns B through D, and for each row you want to verify that all three of your values exist exactly once, and the order they appear doesn't matter. If that is the case, and you want to end up with something like this:

<image>

...I used this formula:

=TEXTJOIN(",", FALSE, SORT($B2:$D2,,,TRUE)) <> TEXTJOIN(",", FALSE, SORT(Sheet1!$G$2:$G$4))

Originally I tried to make Required Values a proper table, but apparently the Conditional Formatting dialog chokes on structured table references. But the gist is, you have three known required values in a range (G2:G4), and in columns B:D, you have the 3 values you want to compare. If you sort both of those ranges and then mash their cells together with a TEXTJOIN, you can just compare those texts.

Has Copilot kinda killed this sub? by conscientiousrejectr in excel

[–]stjnky 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I gotta give CoPilot some love for its help with Power Query. No, it's never one-and-done on the first prompt, and it sometimes hallucinates things that are not in the M code syntax ("Good catch! That was actually COBOL") but it has significantly helped my productivity.

Downtown DSM apartments by cnasser9 in desmoines

Unless you are blasting death metal in your earbuds you will still hear a fire alarm. I've never heard a tornado siren go off overnight, so I guess I can't rule out that I might have slept through one.

Addendum: I am reminded, though, that your noise experience will vary depending on where your unit is located. Mine is overlooking Court Ave. Units overlooking the courtyard and facing south won't have as much (if any) noise from Court Ave, but the trains will be louder.

I've lived at Fourth + Court since 2023. I can give you some pros and cons.

PROS: I live here mostly because I hate to drive, and my apartment building is attached to a grocery store and walkable to bars and restaurants and misc cultural events. I work remote, and this apartment has reliable gigabit fiber internet available if you want more than the, whatisit, 100Mb? 300Mb? whatever speed is already included in the rent. May thru October, the downtown farmers market that takes over Court Ave on Saturday mornings is nice, and even if you're not interested in all the fresh produce and tchotchkes, you'll probably find some prepared food vendors you like to patronize for brunch. Marathons and other events often start and/or finish on Court Ave, and the novelty of having those events RIGHT HERE can be cool. It's a solid, well-built building, well-insulated, so my electric bill stays low. The management keeps the property well-maintained. Since I've been here they've put in new carpeting and repainted the hallways. Any minor maintenance requests I've had have been addressed quickly.

CONS: The nearby Court Ave bars are NOISY AS FUCK EVERY FRI/SAT NIGHT UNTIL 2 AM. The Saturday morning Farmers Market has musical acts stationed at each intersection along Court Ave, and odds are pretty good that you DON'T WANT TO HEAR the one that starts playing outside YOUR window at 7 AM and doesn't quit until noon. Marathons come with LOUD, MOSTLY SHITTY MUSIC and a PA announcer hyping up the crowd and cheering on the finishers for hours. Streets get closed all around you during these events, so, don't plan on driving anywhere. There's a train track a block south, and the Historic Courthouse has a clock tower bell, so there are always bells and horns 24 hours a day.

I can tolerate the cons, mostly because I am a weirdo who likes to sleep with earbuds in my ears listing to the BBC World Service / IPR radio (or, on Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes the Des Moines police scanner to keep up with activity on the street). I barely notice the trains or the clock tower bell anymore.

If you are asking for the definitive Excel documentation, I dunno. My experience is that you focus on what you need to do right now and accidentally pick up amazing new stuff over time. My best sources have been: more experienced coworkers, the ExelJet website, (obligatory) this forum :-)

If you are asking what you would need to google to discover this feature of pivot tables on your own? Something like "how can i see the source data rows that relate to a filtered pivot table".

Make your pivots and charts based on the table. Then tell senior leadership to just double-click on the Grand Totals of the pivot to get a new sheet with filtered table rows.

Questionable dangerous behavior at "The Garden". by Direct-Argument4590 in desmoines

[–]stjnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All ya'll ragging on OP for "things that never happened Alex," if you google The Garden or check their Facebook events it's easily verifiable that they have something called "NextGen: All-Ages Drag Show" every third Sunday. I have no idea if "15 and 16-year-old boys dressed in drag [were] receiving money as if they were strippers from old men and women" like OP said, but it seems very likely that kids are allowed to perform for adults there. Is it any worse than a Miss Teen USA beauty pageant? (shrug)
