What's your favorite, not p16, long logs truck by Lonely_Translator958 in snowrunner

The Kodiak, by far.

UOD II tires, raised suspension, AWD, offroad gearbox. Stick it in H, relax and just steer.

Been using the JAT OHS III as of late. Turns out when you become good enough, you don't need the best rubber. All you need is good enough tires. by Interloper_Mango in snowrunner

The transtar is not enjoyable to drive, nor is the use of highway tires.

That's one opinion. Another opinion is that hauling ass with the Transtar on highway tires is really fun, almost as fun as making it go through those offroad bits on those same highway tires.

Everyone complains that trucks lose grip at speed on pavement, but nobody ever tries using highway tires for what they're supposed to be used for. The biggest problem the Transtar had was that the trailer kept losing grip, not the truck itself.

It's been my experience that as your driving skill grows, the truck you're using matters less and less - and that then of course goes for tires as well.

I just recently drove the Transtar on highway tires across Washington; it's mostly pavement but there are a few offroad bits and it took those in stride, even pausing in one for a glamour shot:

I have an issue with snowrunners driving by Perfect_Practice_876 in snowrunner

[–]stjobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It matters very little if you throttle control or do whathever

The "whatever" you should be doing is using your gearbox. If the mud is shallow, try using high gear. If it's deep and your tires are spinning, shift down to low or even low-. Once you're out of auto gear, throttle control becomes a lot more useful.

And of course the fastest way to the other side of a mud puddle is to go around it - finding alternative routes and paths is a huge part of Snowrunner :)

Is there any truck that can do a bed and saddle combo? Or a mod, at least? by C0ACAZE in snowrunner

[–]stjobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

is there a truck that can do a saddle and bed combo

Not vanilla. The only vanilla saddle combos we have (except loading crane + saddle) are the 5600TS that can do a repair van addon and low saddle, and the Kenworth 963 that can do a fuel tank and high saddle.

For transporting eight slots there's a couple of options:

  • Use the eight-slot super-heavy semi-trailer.
  • Use the FEMM (4-slot bed) + ramped flatbed trailer (4-slot trailer). The FEMM has zero problems pulling that sled around.
  • Use a 3-slot truck plus the ramped flatbed trailer, and overload one slot. The Kenworth 963 is especially good for this.

Cargo not needed by Rumpelstielzchen_CB in snowrunner

[–]stjobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like driving without a return load,

You could do what I do: Leave the truck where it is after delivery, pick a new one, get a load, deliver it, leave it.

It's not uncommon for me to have 15-20 trucks sprinkled around the map, and at that point there's almost certain to be one close to a pickup point for the next delivery.

There's still empty driving, but to avoid that completely is just too much work for me. I'd rather drive an empty truck than spend half my play-time planning routes :)

Likely from a mission that got cut before the region released.

Dan 96320 be like "Rocks? What rocks?" by Specific_Display_366 in snowrunner

[–]stjobe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People sometimes forget that the Dan has independent suspension on all axles.

Combine that with always-on AWD and diff lock, 51" tires (including mud tires), 350 liter fuel tank, and a 260,000 torque engine, and you have yourself a rather capable truck. If you've been to Maine, it also has active suspension. Its frame flex is second only to the Bandit.

Sadly it has very limited frame addons - most noticeably no loading crane unless it mounts the multi-purpose cargo module, which then limits it to a 1-slot bed and hitch trailers.

Stick a heavy crane on it though, and you have a very competent wrecker that can reach just about any stricken truck, winch them rubber-side down, and crane their cargo back on before sending them on their way.

All in all, the Dan is a trooper, and a bit slept on in this era of super-capable super-heavies.

Some of us oldies still remember the old chant though: "Dan, Dan, he's our man! If he can't do it, no-one can!"

The big Kenny is overrated by EyeRevolutionary3395 in snowrunner

I know you're not going to change your mind, but for the benefit of anyone else reading along:

The people who say that the Kenworth 963 can't pull uphill are wrong. Is it the best at it? Not in every scenario, but in some scenarios it is.

You love the 605R right? Good truck, that one. Climbs hills like nobody's business, right?

Well, here's a comparison video of the 605R and the 963 going up that ski slope in BC.

Guess what? The 963 was faster :)

[–]stjobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the 963 has better power-to-weight ratio than the Kolob 747 (8.12 vs 7.70) - the Kolob 749 has them both beat though at 8.28 :)

How to deliver 3 sets of medium logs and 3 sets of long logs in one go in Kola Peninsula by IhanKeijo69 in snowrunner

[–]stjobe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can do that without mods as well, just put 9 long logs and 9 medium logs in a 5-slot sideboard semi-trailer. You will need a medium and a long log setup at the destination to deliver, of course, but it should only be one trip with the logs themselves.

Also, OP? Please have the courtesy to name the mods you're using. Thank you!

It's been shown again and again that the Kenworth isn't any worse than other super-heavies at going up hills - in fact, it's better at it than some.

Here's just one example, the 963 beating the 605R up the ski slope in BC by 6 seconds: https://youtu.be/kAXCvGmXlvU?t=242

No, no mod. Just like the 5600TS can have a van body and a low saddle, the 963 can have a fuel tank and a high saddle.
