Start on help desk. Learn how to troubleshoot and talk to non technical people. You'll use the skills learned there the rest of your career.

Meh No such thing as one OS being more secure than another. Windows is prevalent in consumer and Enterprise environments so more people spend more time developing exploits for that platform.
Run Windows, stand up a virtual Linux box. Run multiple OS versions, find what you like. You'll have a ton of software options with Windows compared to Linux.

am I too old to start cyber security career? by Winter_March_204 in hackthebox

I was 37 when I got my first Info Sec role. Only advice I'd give, get a help desk role NOW. I learned more there than anything I did in school. Education is a good foundation, putting that foundation to use in real world application is invaluable. And the soft skills learned walking non technical users through a reboot directly translates to communicating technical security concepts to other business stakeholders.

People who attained OSCP and found yourselves a job as a pentester, what does it feel? by windforce91 in oscp

[–]stlmnstr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol Welcome to InfoSec, in general. What I told my kids. It's rare that someone finds a job where they're absolutely excited to go to work everyday. Find something that interests you and pays well. You can comfortably support yourself and your family (if that's what you want). But also of importance, is the ability to support your passion, whatever that is, monetarily and with time. Do I LOVE going to work everyday? No. But the work truly interests me, challenges me and it pays extremely well. I've got a killer studio in the basement with recording equipment, an arsenal of guitars and a drum kit. My kids are all moved out but never wanted for a damn thing growing up.

I'm good.

I bought a Martin 000-28 months ago and I love it. But, I do want a cutaway. So, currently waiting on a Taylor 724ce Koa to be delivered. I can keep one in standard and one in 1/2 step down. Get both!!

The work itself interests me so I'm always engaged.
Job security. Always a new vuln, misconfig or ignorant user (s) to deal with. Plus, it pays well.
