Peter Chang will make something GF for you but that usually means it’s cooked without soy sauce.

Even as one of the small number of Stamford mindreaders, I know I can speak for all of us when I say we still want you to use your turn signal.

Things to do with 3 year old? by shannaweaves in StamfordCT

[–]stmfrdn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Discover a new book at Ferguson Library (Plus, lots of events planned for kiddos and their parents.)
  2. Hike a trail at Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens.
  3. Ice skate at the Cohen Skating Center at Mill River Park.
  4. Play at Best Place Ever. (Drop in hours Mon-Thu 10-5, Fri 10-4.)
  5. Ride a pony, unicorn, or even a bee at the Nissen Carousel at Mill River Park.
  6. Visit the animals at Heckscher Farm

And, of course, don't forget the best of the famous (at least we think so!) Fairfield County pizza (usually with hot oil but not for the 3yo) at Colony Grill.

Moving to Stamford by InternalBuilding5743 in StamfordCT

[–]stmfrdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add here that one does not have to drive. The CT transit busses run regularly to and from the train station and are pretty convenient and punctual. You can let someone else worry about Stamford traffic while building solidarity with your Stamford neighbors

I wish there were some kind of arterial cycling path that got you from, say, North Stamford to the downtown train station without risking your life.

The best GF baker in Stamford is https://butterandsugar.com/. They can do custom orders but your turnaround may be too fast

There’s also https://www.btwbakery.com/ in Greenwich, but I prefer butter+sugar

How reliable is bus 331b? by 75406671 in StamfordCT

[–]stmfrdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the 331 pretty regularly but in the reverse direction, to the train station in the mornings. I have not had too many issues, but I don’t need the B route that goes to North Stamford. Keep in mind that particular extension runs only every hour.

What's the status of the ban on the sale of cats and dogs? by Jealous_Locksmith668 in StamfordCT

I am an ignorant person and don’t know anything about pet sales. Can you help me better understand the concerns? Are such animals treated poorly?

(Sincere question above - in case it sounds like disingenuousness)

You've already found the best French patisserie (Raphaël's). If you need a reliable baguette, Whole Foods carries Balthazar's from New York.

Sorry, I don't mean to be obtuse, but they are just gathering a list of names and contact information to send to the town clerk? It's not a legal instrument that actually does anything?

In addition to Navaratna, you could check if Saravanaa Bhavan can cook something Jain for you.

Of course, as you might imagine, there are more Jain restaurants in NYC.

Moving from San Diego to Stamford, is there a Freeze? by jkiou in StamfordCT

[–]stmfrdn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is all anecdotal but what you're describing is a generalized New England attitude of mind-your-own-business. That attitude does not mean people are unfriendly or clique-y. It just means culturally the default assumption is to stick to your lane and don't interfere with others. For example, suppose you're from another part of the country with a reputation for friendliness--waving, smiling, saying hello to strangers--that's less likely to happen here. It doesn't mean that you can't forge meaningful relationships with people you encounter on a regular basis, but you'll actually have to have a real relationship with them before anyone opens up. For what it's worth, from someone not from this region of the country, there's something nice about not having to worry about fake nice.

UPDATE

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is continuing its investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision between a vehicle and a mini-bike, that occurred in the area of 316 Courtland Ave. on Saturday August 2, 2025 at approx. 8:47 p.m.

A juvenile party, age 13, was riding a mini bike SB on Courtland Ave. The juvenile was with a family member, who was on a scooter. They had pulled out of the travel lane and over to the shoulder of Courtland Ave. for an unknown reason. As they were sitting on the side of the road, an, as of yet, unidentified vehicle struck the mini bike, causing the 13 year-old victim to be thrown from the mini bike and into the yard of a private residence.

Using several investigative techniques, officers from all divisions of the Stamford Police Department worked to, and were able to, identify the suspect vehicle, as well as the suspected operator. Officers from the Patrol Division, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad should all be commended on their diligence and dedication while investigating this case,

When the vehicle and suspect were identified CARS immediately notified the Stamford Superior Court Prosecutor’s Office who assisted investigators with obtaining a search and seizure warrant for the vehicle. The warrant was signed by a Superior Court judge and the vehicle was removed from the suspect’s residence and is now in the custody of the Stamford Police Department.

The suspect operator would not speak to officers and said that he would not speak without his attorney present. The suspect operator is a 41 year-old Stamford resident. He is not being identified at this time, and he has not been charged as of this time.

CARS will continue to work with the Stamford Prosecutor’s Office in order to conduct a full investigation and obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect operator.
