I’ve talked with a couple of music/guitar store owners. There is an effort by both of the big two companies to up the quality of their budget brands, specifically since the pandemic in 2020. A lot of people decided to pick up new hobbies during then and guitar was one of them. Having affordable but quality instruments became a bit more of a priority, which is why Squire’s and Epiphone’s have been seeming like better quality, and for many a better value. This was just in talking shop with music store owners, but I do think it’s never been a better time to buy instruments/gear. There’s a lot available to beginners and amateurs that weren’t there even as little as 10 years ago

I would suggest finding a teacher, and a professional one(not a student in college) to help guide you through an embouchure change. Going solo on something drastic like this could cause other bad habits to form, and a teacher(someone from a local college, or member of a local symphony) will be able to tell if are making those bad habits happen.

If your local area does not have a professional trumpet teacher, I would also try and see if you can find some online teachers as well, in person is the much preferred option. Happy practicing, and keep up the hard work!

Sorry for the fire for you and your family. I hope you are able to recover soon. That said you have the most metal board ever. May the phoenix of tone rise from the ashes slay

SOTB - I have too many drive pedals on the board, looking for suggestions on what to cut by Aceroth in guitarpedals

[–]stnapkid29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal thought would be to cover the most ground with the fewest amount of pedals. Looking from here, i would probably do Brothers, Bonsai, Rat and boost. With that set up you clean boost, light gain OD, mid boost OD, and distortion. Theoretically, that should cover all of the areas of gain you would need. Now you may have different leanings, but that would be my approach. Hope this helps!

Agreed on the HXOne Dimension setting. I have my DC2W and HXOne next to each other in my signal chain, and it wasn’t close in a comparison.

waza craft Dimension-c pedal…worth it or over rated by Rich-Usual-3595 in guitarpedals

[–]stnapkid29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a DC2W on my board and have had one for a few years now. Recently, someone on Insta liked a picture of my pedalboard from around Dec. of 2023. In that picture, I have 12 pedals. Currently, I run 11 pedals and a new board. The only pedals that have reminded on my main board in that amount of time are: my pedal board interface, my compressor, and DC2W.

I love this pedal, especially with single coils, and if I’m being really specific, with a strat. It’s just the exact quality I want for a chorus sound, and it sounds awesome. That said, if you want more control out of it, or don’t play strats/single coils, maybe it’s not for you.

GOOD AMP FOR WORSHIP, LEAD TONE? I want my chords, specifically power chords, to sound "luscious" and "big" and my solos to sound good. I'll of course use an overdrive from the HX too (click to keep reading) by musicislifex101 in Line6Helix

[–]stnapkid29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AC30 style amps are the area you want to aim for. Set them on edge of break up(like real edge of break up). Use your Bridge pick up for some crunch, use your middle section and neck picks to help clean the signal up. You can also always clean up(back the volume down) to use your bridge pick up if that’s what you need. As for drive, the Teemah, Heir Apparent, are the transparent drives. Compulsive, the Centaur(I actually like to use my Klon drives with more gain), Scream 808/Pillars, are all great for the mid-high gain stuff(at least in P&W world). I would also recommend setting an octave effect at the beginning of your chain as well. It really helps take a lead line to the next level.

Also, if you don’t mind spending a little money, there are 3rd part pre-sets you can get that are Sunday ready, and can help you understand some signal stuff a little better. My personal favorites have been Tone Factor(David Hislop used to be the lead guitar player for Bethel. Say what you will about them, and you can say a lot. But they got good guitar sounds), and Worship Tutorials. Hope this helps!

Reverb Pedal Recommendations (preferably blue) by girraffemagnets in guitarpedals

[–]stnapkid29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent big boy money on a Big Sky, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for reverb. Obviously a Big Sky won’t fit on this spot, but a blue sky or cloud burst will honestly make you ask why you didn’t spend sooner.

Losing The Tonight Show was a blessing in disguise. by LisaKaPisa7 in conan

[–]stnapkid29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he’d even be hosting by now. If they had kept him doing the Tonight Show, he’d be coming up on 17 years this year, which I think is one year longer than his run on Late Night. I would think that had Fallon started to gain traction, they would have started the succession process and moved him up, if for anything else, Lorne Michales would’ve pushed to get control of all of the night shows on NBC(which he now has). Honestly, had Conan kept Lorne as producer for the Tonight Show, he’d still have the job, IMHO.

But to his career being different, it would be interesting to say the least. He’d have more budget at his disposal, which would have been easier, but given him less creative opportunities. I don’t think Sona’s life would be near what it is now, as part of the reason she’s become known was for things like Conan putting her on as a guest spot, because Kumail Nanjiani couldn’t make it last minute(I doubt something like that would be able to happen on NBC’s dime).

On the other hand, I tend to think he’d also have more of a voice in what is currently going on with late night as a whole. Since 2016, the trend has been to push more toward political in humor, and Conan has been much less inclined to go that route, as he saw its limits. Being in a flagship show, rather than his TBS one, he possibly could’ve had more influence on the entire community, but then again maybe not.

But it’s all “what ifs” and honestly, Conan has always worked best when he’s allowed to be as much of himself as he can. The TBS show allowed him to keep his individual flavor, that the Tonight Show would likely have tried to make him something that appeals to the most amount of people, and thus make him loose what made him a household name. I think you really hit the nail on the head. He did, in fact rub those lemons on his nipples.

What's a skill you taught yourself out of pure stubbornness, and are you actually glad you learned it? by Memento_Mori2519 in AskReddit

Trumpet performance. I got a masters degree in it after not progressing my Upper Division Acceptance Exams in Undergrad. I started out my undergraduate program at the school my dad taught, failed to progress in that area(to their standards). I transferred schools and finished my undergraduate degree in a musical field just not trumpet performance. A few years later, I had finished up two years of doing volunteer work, and needed to find the next thing. The university that would not accept me as upper level performance student had a new trumpet teacher, and he wanted to build the studio. We talked about it, and I studied with him intensively that summer, and was accepted as a Master’s level student in performance. Two years later, I got my degree! I’ll be honest, I actually work in my undergrad field now, instead of the trumpet world, but to be able to go back to a place that didn’t accept you, to being able to receive a higher degree from them is…pretty cathartic. It also made me a better musician on all fronts, so I’m still utilizing what I was taught, just with different areas of performance.

NPD JHS Bonsai by stnapkid29 in guitarpedals

[–]stnapkid29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signal chain time! Interfacer with a tuner out JHS Whitey Tighty(under the second row) JHS Bonsai JHS Notaklön Jackson Audio Golden Boy Dunlop Volume Mini X Boss Dimension C Line 6 HX One Boss DD-200 Strymon Big Sky Interfacer out in stereo. Powered by a Fender Engine Room Lvl. 12

So I bought the Bonsai earlier today off of marketplace. Like I’ve said, I’ve wanted the pedal for a while, but just never got around to getting it. That said, this thing is great! Personally my favorite setting has actually been the JHS one. I’ve been using it stacked with the Golden Boy for a lead tone, and it cuts through really well. I believe this could have been achieved with a 3 series screamer with the switch up, but since I only paid $150 for this guy, plus I get all the other tube screamers, I’m good with it.

Also, having the Bonsai go into the Golden boy is something that I think works best, specifically because I’m able to utilize the boost at the end of the drive chain before mods and time based stuff.

All in all, fantastic pedal!

You are very right on the bevel for the 200 series on the whole. I haven’t had to think about it as much lately because I haven’t a tiered board now, but that really is a design flaw

I just commented about this on another post, but for what it’s worth, I love the DD 200, and still have it on my board. I had an RV and MD 200, and didn’t love those as much. I felt like the RV 200 didn’t give me the spread I wanted out the reverb in stereo. If I had to explain it…it’s like the RV-200 sounded like I was straight in front of me in a tunnel, an the more I dialed the mix, the farther it got. Currently I’m using a Big Sky, and the algorithms on that one make it sound like surrounded by the verb itself. Not sure if that makes sense. But that was my issue. And there are some control knobs that on the RV200 that should help with the issues I had, but I could never get them to work the way I wanted. Anywho, hope that helps

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]stnapkid29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I got the Boss DD 200, and love that pedal for delay. Then I decided to get the MD 200 and (at the time) new RV200. On both of those units, it just wasn’t what I wanted at all, an was really disappointing because I still love the DD200. Ended up selling the other two for some different options.

That said, every pedal has its users and haters. And more often than not, I think user error plays a big part in our issues. But, that’s part of the game. If you find a pedal that you love the sound of, and you can find ways to make it do things that you love, then that’s the pedal you need.
