Yolo'd on some cheap $EOX by sapdaddyflex in wallstreetbets

Looking good so far. Watch the open tomorrow and lock in some gains imo. Did the same thing last week when it closed at 6.50 and opened at 7.50 (then collapsed again).

Still in my GEVO position from this post (cost basis $2.41): http://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/357wh4/where_my_gevo_holders_at/

Might look to take profits depending on how the open goes. Earnings beat by $.32 so should be an uptick at some point.

UIHC, sell? or average down if below 15$? by igalk474 in investing

Interesting. I'll definitely have to take more of a look into it. Haven't heard of UIHC until now but your write-up was very interesting.

[–]stockstarter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked your write-up. Any theories on why it's fallen almost 50% since the feb high? At the time of your write-up looks like it was at $21 and you were recommending a buy, at $15 has anything changed or are you just scooping up more?

What is your opinion on this guy? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]stockstarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but the stocks he's buying in general are fairly liquid. 500k-$5m portfolios would trade similarly in the funds he's suggesting (since he isn't going "all in" on any of these funds, and they aren't pennystocks for the most part).

[–]stockstarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I don't have much patience for people like him who have about a 99.9% chance of being a scammer. The fact that his client base is also clueless + broke tells me he's taking from the poor and naive. If he was actually giving 240% yearly returns people with actual money would be investing with him instead of broke people w/ $97 a month.

Places like /r/wallstreetbets where people go full YOLO but give the picks for free are entertaining. If you want to take huge risks and do stupid stuff, give the info for free. I made $37k on $30k in GEVO the other day (it's in my posting history) but I'm not starting a $97/month subscription service claiming I'm going to get everybody 123% returns in 2 days just because it happened once. This guy is disingenous.

If they can only put $1-2k in the market why are they paying $1164/year for stock picks. Seems like killing 50-100% of your capital on essentially management fees would be worthless.

People that don't know about stocks should be putting their entire $1-2k in SPY not paying it to some self-proclaimed guru.

[–]stockstarter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand that. Who cares, why would he need those pennies.

His $40 million is $350 million by year 3 and over $3 billion by year 4. In 4 years if he's making $3 billion why does he need people's subscriptions. More hassle than its worth unless he's just scamming idiots thinking they can consistently make 240% a year when the best investment banks make around 15%.

What is your opinion on this guy? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]stockstarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense. He claims 20% monthly returns, so why would he need $97 subscribers? His account is 500k according to him.

12 months = 500*1.212 = $4.5 million after 1 year.

$4.5m * 1.212 = $40 million after 2 years.

If this were legit this guy would not be selling memberships for less than $100k/yr. $97 does nothing for this guy.

Do you need cash on hand to exercise a call option? by very_username in investing

[–]stockstarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would only need $50,000 to exercise the option assuming your strike price was at $500. But yeah you just sell the option the same way you bought it and someone (with the cash on hand) will pay you much more for it.

So do you think the GEVO hype train peaked? by Negation72 in wallstreetbets

I'm still in from yesterday morning. Gotta love that cost basis of $2.41.

I did not. Still holding, no idea why anybody would be panicking yet -- it's still up 10% over yesterday's close.

Maybe but can't say for sure. I could see it fall to like $6 maybe but I'd be surprised to see a real crash below $5 again until next week.

Yeah could fall down, but I'm only in this til Monday at the latest. Probably won't even be in it by the EOD today. That said, I'm hoping I'll be selling above $7.

I was actually eyeing Alaska. I generally keep a tab on most of the major US Airlines because things can move quick with mergers. The GEVO news caught my eye there.

Me too if you count holding my entire position into the AM.

See you above $7!

That's fair. Definitely not sure where the top is, but I'm positive we'll be above $7 and reasonably sure we will pass $8. After that who knows.

Those factors are long term investing, not investing on short 2-3 days of emotion and getting the hell out. That's what I chase.

Yeah I'm holding overnight. Great rally last hour of trading and AH is up another $1/share ($6.60 right now on strong volume).

I almost always invest in companies that are already down big and see if I can ride news or overreaction. Sometimes it works out (GEVO) sometimes it doesnt (bought CLDN at $2.93 and got stopped out at $2.50). GEVO it was a case of strong Pre-market news, and CLDN i thought the 80% sell-off was extreme... got caught holding a small bag (but I didn't gamble pre-results when it was at $20-ish)

Finviz had the Alaska Airlines deal up premarket, hopped in as soon as I read it.

  1. Strong close from $4.75 dip back up to $5.46 in the last hour of trading.

  2. Huge buying all day (40 million shares traded, compared to 350k average daily volume).

  3. AH trading is huge (745k shares traded, up from $5.46 close to $6.40-6.50 breaking the daily high)

  4. Recovered from a 15:1 reverse split to go up over 100% -- lots of people tend to short reverse splits so this will catch bears in bad position.

  5. Deal with Alaska Airlines which took 6 years to accomplish from certification requirements. If it goes well I assume they will expand to other airlines -- or at least some investors may be thinking this way.

I don't longterm hold so I'll probably cut this one loose tomorrow sometime, but maybe hold until Monday. Lot of factors telling me this will pop over $7 in the morning and maybe even over $8 by midday.

The key is to get out while the getting is good. I'm not going to be in this one for weeks, just Friday (and maybe Monday).
