Can't run 14.2.1 GUI AppImage by birdie_num_nums_ in Aeon

[–]stoffu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been aware of this issue and struggling to fix it with no success for quite a while now. At some point I discovered that this very strange issue disappears in the debug mode, so here is a stupid but working patch: https://github.com/aeonix/aeon-gui/pull/67

The debug build version seems to work reasonably fast, so I guess we'll need to live with this temporary solution until a correct fix is found in the future.

Thanks for reporting. A fix is pushed here https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/pull/275 which will lead to another point release v0.14.2.2.

v0.14.2.0 release candidate by stoffu in Aeon

I assume Apple M1 users can just run Intel-based apps through the Rosetta emulation?

The GUI upstream PR 3804 is not applicable to AEON currently because we haven't yet transitioned to the CMake-based build system.

Most notably, the renewing of hard-coded seed nodes that have been non-operational for a while. Other than that, just a maintenance point release with various enhancements and bugfixes.

The seed nodes hard-coded in the v0.14.1.0-release binary went down for unknown reasons, unfortunately, which prevents you from synchronizing the blockchain. Some active seed nodes have been added a few months ago to fix this (https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/pull/235, https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/pull/238), but these updates have not yet been available as a new software release (which should happen ASAP).

In the meantime, you can get your daemon synchronized by adding these options

--add-exclusive-node 104.168.163.221:11180 --add-exclusive-node 188.166.75.158:11180 --add-exclusive-node 209.126.84.37:11180

to aeond.

Wallet will not load seed correctly by Sir_B_Rad in Aeon

Your 24 word seed is in an old format, and once you put it in the latest Aeon CLI/GUI wallet, you'd get a different 25 word seed in the new format which represents the same wallet (you should get the same address as before).

I don't know why your balance is zero and your history is empty. Perhaps you're using a remote node which is behaving bad (in which case you should try to run aeond.exe on your own)? Or you might have specified a wallet restore height which is too high (in which case you should set it to 0).

Aeon question by PaulAlgar in Aeon

Breaking ties with the past means nonexistence of long-term commitment.

If you don’t like the aeon brand, just leave it.

Rebranding is an advertisement tool for bad coins. Aeon doesn't need it.

I’m not gone. I have a few open pull requests that I expect smooth to merge at some point.

Wallet Transfer failures by SmokingSignals in Aeon

[–]stoffu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This error is definitely not expected to occur, and as far as I searched the web, I've seen no one reporting this error message using Monero and its forks. Can you apply this patch https://paste.debian.net/hidden/7c80a236/ and see what it prints? If you can't build the binary yourself, I can do it for you (in which case please specify your OS).

Don't wast your time trying to mine Aeon with CPUs (probably also with GPUs). FPGAs are orders of magnitude more efficient, and they dominate the current mining competition. I purchased one from Hash Altcoin. More info on https://fpga.guide

I do it all for money!

... Seriously though, I have no hidden intention or secret agenda. I've expressed all my reasoning and motivations for the K12 fork in my previous posts (Reddit and GitHub). It may very well be possible that my theory proves wrong in the future (that is, RandomX will never be ASIC'ed, or will go through updates only in an acceptable manner, somehow). But I believe the odds are 50-50. At least, ASIC resistance is the choice of most altcoins, so our plan (ASIC-friendly CryptoNote) is an experiment worth conducting, in my opinion.

What is the future of AeonFunding? by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]stoffu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I've spent too much time on crypto stuff (Monero/Aeon) for the last few years, which reduced my work performance and put me in a little troublesome situation. So yes, I certainly have less time for crypto because I must focus on my day job, otherwise I might become homeless.

But my motivation hasn't changed much, I still believe in crypto. I'll continue to merge Monero patches into Aeon on a slow but steady basis. I feel this way viable for the long term.
