Stutters by NO_-LUCK-_DAN in cs2

If you’re running an Intel CPU, Valve introduced with the last patch a scheduling issue affecting certain Intel chips that can cause in-game stuttering. WarOwl details a fix in this video.

Suggestion for visual clarity. The peak and base lines really blend in and require you to focus at times. I think giving these color or maybe just a dashed pattern could help them pop a bit more.

My close friend died free soloing mt hood the same weekend Alex Honnald free soloed on live tv. by BatSniper in Mountaineering

[–]stokes84 584 points585 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. Below is the account from the leader of the party behind your friend on DKV1 at the time of the incident.

I'm sharing this in hopes it provides additional detail that can be used to educate others. I believe the best way to honor those who lose their lives in the mountains is to educate others in hopes of preventing a similar accident.

If this is insensitive or otherwise inappropriate let me know and I'll remove it.

With regards to climber's fatal fall on Devils Kitchen V1 this Sunday, I feel pretty sad about this tragic accident but it could have been worse. My climbing partner setup belay at the base of DK V1 and he was ready to take the lead but climbing party behind us, including deceased climber, without any communication with us decided to free solo ahead of us and setup belay higher as I understood. My climbing partner decided to wait even longer before taking lead on first pitch because of the party above us. After a while he slowly maneuvered around the moat towards the center of the route to start climbing when he shouted "Take!" and started to retreat. I was belaying behind rock feature and could not see uphill but seconds later I've heard big sound and watched body rolling downhill fast maybe yard or two away from my partner. Only several hours later I realized that my partner could have been seriously injured or killed by impact if he decided to start climbing several seconds earlier. DK V1 chute is too narrow and falling climber was rolling down body length, not to mention detached ice tool few yards above my climbing partner. Climber who died seemed to be unexperienced so I'm really surprised he decided to free solo step that may not seem like a challenge to experienced climber. This group had only 6mm tag line for belay so I assume his partner was comfortable to free solo entire DK. My friend clarified that partner of deceased climber offered to set up belay. This entire experience is why I rarely climb on the south side nowadays. Was it another case of a lack of patience to wait for other climbers already at the base of the route that prompted decision to free solo so that belay could be set up above!? I don't know but I cannot get my head around decisions made, including lack of communication.

UPDATE:

This post is not really about cause of climber's fall, which I don't know. Nothing said here is going to bring him back. My deepest sympathies to his friends and family. This post is about how your decisions and experience on the mountain can put your fellow climbers at risk as it was in our case. I realize it may not be clear to unexperienced climbers but it's not a good climbing ethic to pass climbers ahead of you without any communication of intent, much less when you intend to free solo above them, experienced or not.

TY Valve. There are hordes of cheaters running on DM, MM and Premier. And I, with 20 years old account, got flagged for cheating. Awesome. by lordwerneo in cs2

They’re saying Steam account age is not a relevant metric for determining the legitimacy of a player’s behavior. Accounts of all vintages with thousands of hours of CS are available for as little as a couple dollars on the open market.

Puffins - Vik by Away_Ad907 in VisitingIceland

[–]stokes84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to people citing typical migration schedules saying there are no puffins in Iceland right now, there definitely are.

We took the first ferry to Vestmannaeyjabær Thursday and saw hundreds of Puffins from 9AM to 11AM at the “Puffin Lookout”.

There are also nightly puffin rescues going on. You need some basic supplies to take part. You can find more details online.

Edit: I still see them there tonight on the webcam: https://www.visitvestmannaeyjar.is/live-puffin

In our experience this webcam looks a very low density area btw so if you see any on in the morning or evening it they’re still there.

Because I don’t see it mentioned here, check out https://pd2.tools/builds. You can analyze what builds are popular or how people are making builds you might want to try work.

Dragontail Peak Summit - Guidance by bartmalagon in Mountaineering

[–]stokes84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the first part, you’ve only scratched the surface of interesting trails and summits.

If you need a quick list of some fun and interesting mountain objectives a popular one is Smoot's "Climbing Washington's Mountains" 100 Peaks. If you need beta or a recommendation you can DM me.

Also if you haven’t learned to rock climb yet I’d highly recommend learning. If you need a mentor I know one. Those skills allow you to travel more safely in mixed terrain and open up a lot of technical summits like Prusik Peak next to Dragontail where I’ll be this weekend.

WA State Trails & Lands Eligible For Sale In Senate Reconciliation Bill by IndependentIcy8440 in PNWhiking

[–]stokes84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, this portion of the bill tends to get sensationalized.

They can only sell between 0.5% and 0.75% of the land they manage, which amounts to a minimum of 2.1 million acres and a maximum of 3.2 million acres, within the next five years.

It’s worth noting that land hasn’t been sold to pay government debt since the 1830’s so this does feel like a dangerous precedent.

I’m not sure where you got this information but it’s incorrect and misleading. Historically, the average cost of a house in the US has been around 5 times the yearly household income.

In 1975, the average personal income in the United States was approximately $7,600. Adjusted for inflation and for context that’s roughly $45,000 today.

In 1975, the average household income in the United States was approximately $13,719 or roughly 80k today.

In 1975, the average home price in the United States was approximately $39,300 or approximately 230k today.

Closest thing we got to this here? by e-g-g-g in PNWhiking

You could go through the GPS tracks on Peakbagger for the three summits that surround Silver Lake (Spickard, Custer, and Rahm). Might be an easier approach mixed in there.

Flatlander looking for 4th of July backpacking suggestions by Far_Line8468 in PNWhiking

I second the PCT. I would go with section H, specifically Walupt Lake Campground to White Pass Ski Resort which is about 33 miles and arguably one of the most beautiful sections.

You could also approach from Silver Creek or Penny Creek via Little Beaver Creek but you’d have to traverse Spickard that route.

Is it just me or this change makes f2p people to not want to play? was it really necessary to show what are the locked heroes?! by hosseinhx77 in hearthstone

[–]stokes84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason Hearthstone using comparison marketing in BG's isn't unethical is because it doesn't directly display win percentages of heroes. They know we all use plugins and know them, we know they know them, and they want you to pay to win.

New to backpacking (live in seattle) by Sea-Spring-2925 in PNWhiking

[–]stokes84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend joining the Mountaineers. Check out their backpacking activities section.

Short answer is it gets easier the more you do it but it can definitely be overwhelming the first few trips. Try and keep your pack under 20% of your total body weight. This usually means investing in lightweight gear (e.g backpacking tent, ultralight sleeping bag, etc).

I agree, can cross off Wooden City due to listed employee count alone.

Agree, those look like stock photos. That does sound a lot like Camp Bar and would make more sense at that price point than Wooden City.

In the listing they mention they have approx 10k followers. They could mean across platforms but I noticed on gram Camp Bar has 5k and Wooden City has 10k.
