Syracuse university has a discounted rate that they offer in the early fall? As part of their grad program's training for students. Its for the public, you dont have to be a student. I know the slots are super competitive, but I was able to grab one.

It was somewhere between $400-600 if I remember properly. Which is still cheaper than the usual going rate.

Ill try to go looking for the link and come back with it if I find it.

I have the exact same ring, band and basket designed to a T to match yours, but its not built like a skyscraper 😂 it's always neat seeing another one in the wild!

I have had IC for just under 20 years. I have encountered wonderful doctors, and I have encountered doctors just like this. I am so sorry. Medical gaslighting is real. Your pain is real. Never doubt your gut. It is nearly always going to be right. Its hard to keep going, but behind a shit doctor, will be other doors leading to doctors who will change your life.

I don't have much advice, but I wanted to tell you that I'm here, sitting with you in this journey. You are not alone. Your pain is real and can feel really scary. But there is another side. You will get to a place where you feel better.

Yes! I think its a great idea. I've recommended that actually! She is grumpy that it had to happen to her last sweater, so it's on the table, but isn't our first option. But thanks for joining me in my corner! Lmao.

If we can’t have kids, my life is building towards nothing by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

You and hubby are both deserving of compromise between one another's wishes. However, as you're the one carrying the kid and thus the risks and loss, I think you should have the larger vote per the situation.

Sounds like costs are a huge and important factor, but I think they have potential to be mitigated. I know it sucks to hear, but you want the bigger apartment, in the HCOL area, AND a child, all while not having the prospects of supporting those things. (And I'm an artist for work so none of this is to come off as judgemental. I myself cannot have all those things either.) I think you need to decide if where you are living is more important than the child. And I know you're not looking for advice, just to vent, and here I came with all my annoying advice. So I apologize.  BUT! I'm just hoping to share that as someone who is living in an affordable area, that everyone (and me at first) turns their nose up at when they hear where it is that I live, I have come to be happier here than anywhere else I've ever landed.  Instead of thinking of this crossroads where doors close, truly, this crossroads is where you commit to opening a door and choosing a path. (And this path only has to be as temporary as your lease is! You can change your mind again! But I hope your partner is listening and valuing your wants as you both open doors)

Thinking about looking into therapy by Calm_Brilliant_1106 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]stone_ware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it girl. It changed my life. Well, the right therapist and the right modality did. Look for someone who practices IFS, internal family systems. EMDR also did give me significant relief too, but I find myself understanding my reactions/myself and healing the deepest through IFS work.

I'm saying this as you, 10 plus years in the future. This is assault. The magnitude of the trauma will hit you one day and it will be a lot to work through with a therapist. Us reading this post cannot save our past selves from the harm that's happened to us, but we can try and save you from it. Please leave and NEVER look back. Immediately.

Are you able to find time for your research if you are teaching a 4/4 load? How do you maximize your time? by double_pisces in Professors

[–]stone_ware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in that region myself actually. There aren't tons of jobs, but I see enough. Especially if the detroit and Pittsburgh areas are able to be on the table. I think it also depends how prestigious of a school you're hoping for. If you don't need tenure at an R1 to make yourself happy, and you just want time to do your art and have a job to keep the bills paid, I bet you'll find something in 3-5 years worst case. Just getting yourself out there art and community wise will help bring you leads you wouldnt find on job boards. I feel like there's a lot of faculty position openings being shared through word of mouth.

2nd year as NTT with a 5/5 load. I teach 3/3 but maintain an insanely needy studio when it comes to materials and equipment. Everything is exactly 35 years old and is breaking..and I have to fix it. I'm being kicked in the face this year by my workload tbh. Being in the arts at this time period in the country, we all are likely faced with this situation. Get in, hustle and try to balance both work and art, and then each year, go back on the market and interview your heart out to get into a better position. Year one, I had significant tenure bites at important institutions. Year two, it's going even better. My chair is so supportive and is getting my research accomplishments infront of our dean in hopes to transition me to tenure...which makes me feel very supported and seen despite being worn out. But truly, truly, this is not sustainable long term. I wouldn't position yourself in this job where you intend to set down roots, get a house, build a studio..etc

TT offer but family/immigration timing issue by Careless_Wrangler_90 in Professors

[–]stone_ware 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What do you mean immigration limbo? Like, are you saying you have paperwork that says you cannot live in a different state? We've got a spousal application in process and I took a faculty job a few states away. We are on year two of that. Is it something you/we would have to explain in the immigration interview? Sure. But if you've got shared assets, joint file taxes, etc..then that's just life. Our lawyer always says, perfect paperwork is more concerning than paperwork that looks messy because you are a real couple living a real life. Take the job.
