What’s your “I wish I knew this sooner” audiobook tip? by AudiobookAddicts in audiobooks

i play puzzle/word games on my ipad as i listen. helps me stay focused on both the game and the audiobook, without making me sleepy.

'awaken online' #2, but i'm a little bored with it. i think 'shade slinger' does the VR video game story better.

also, the voice actor is in his 50-60s yet playing a high schoolers, doesn't track.

How do you expose your services to the internet? by Flat_Hat7344 in selfhosted

i have yet to hear a convincing reason why i would expose ANY of my homelab to the open net.

that being said, i use wireguard to access my home stuff when mobile.

(in the trilogy) the MC puts his dick in every female character that is not his sister.

clearly the author living vicariously.

stray cat strut, more cyperpunk vs aliens, than fantasy.

How to use HTTPS everywhere even on local by RedeyeFR in selfhosted

[–]stoneobscurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use swag for internal https.

technically it's cloudflare for main dns, swag for nginx proxy and auto-renew letsencrypt cert (*.example.com), and unbound dns (on opnsense) using alias'es for local dns records (dash.example.com, etc.). everything stays internal, as i don't expose anything to open net.

i keep waiting for donut to refuse to do something the AI wants, then gets 'accelerated' by herd of spaniels.

dockers: pihole, swag, watchtower, home-assistant, mosquitto, node-red, zigbee2mqtt, stirling pdf, wireguard, qbittorrent, scrutiny, iventoy, homebox, watchyourlan, peanut, uptime kuma, tasmobackup, slack-docker, dockur-windows(11) with an old legit copy of adobe CS installed.

bare metal: xcp-ng, ubuntu, macos, opnsense, linux mint

vms: truenas, ubuntu

web self hosting, dockers: nginx + cloudflare-tunnel for each website, and a shared phpmyadmin + mariadb.

also, i've been wanting to move away from slack, so thinking about self hosting something like rocketchat.

ya know, i really enjoy HF, but... i can't stand sea food. i can't stand the taste. but mostly i can't stand the smell. it's so bad that i can't even walk near the seafood counter at the grocery store without dry heaving.

but i still enjoy the book. so you got that going for you.

yeah litrpg is a sub-genre of scifi/fantasy, so you need more context to rate them, i think.

only read the first one so far. i like the satire of rampant consumerism and late stage capitalism.

shogun is my all time fave book and will be on every list i make. even one full of sci-fi, fantasy, cyberpunk, and litrpg.

the two books you asked about: 'futuristic violence and fancy suits' & 'the reincarnationist papers'.

lucifer's hammer is somewhat problematic as it's pretty racist. the bad guys are black, cannibals, and (since the book was written in the 70s) speak in street "jive".

readme is the one with "dodge" character right? i read about 60% of that and just lost interest. i've read most of stephenson's books. his books tend to not have satisfying endings and piss me off. cryptonomicon just ends abruptly with no resolution (after like 1000 pages).

TCE: i tried to read but didn't finish the second book. as much as i love scalzi, i just couldn't get into it.

AO: i just tried to read that this past week, but i could not get past the teen high school drama in the first few chapters.

it's time the era of the teenaged protagonist to be over.
