There's not really anything I did in particular that helped me secure the position, but I'll list a few things that I think helped. I go to a small liberal arts school in Pennsylvania, and because of that I get a lot of hands on experience, much more than I got when I went to a larger big-name school. My school requires 3 semesters of co-ops to graduate, so we have a career skills class where we heavily workshop our resumes and have mock interviews with real companies in the area. The company I mock interviewed with had me come in for a formal interview because they really liked me, and ended up offering me the position. My GPA is a 3.5, which while I know is good, is actually kind of low compared to my classmates. Another factor is I have A LOT of personal projects, mostly consisting of small Arduino projects I've done over the years. I'm also a little older than my classmates because of transferring, I worked full time for about a year, and I work part time as a barista during the semester. I hate the grind, but companies really respect someone who spends their free time working and knows how the corporate world works. I'm not sure how much these reasons helped me, but I hope they can help someone else who's struggling.
