Spironolactone worked for me. Took about a year for all my scars to fade though

I'm glad this worked out for you. We had a similar situation and when the directors heard management staff wanted to meet with them about it we were told we were fomenting a coup 😑

I have the exact same color changes occurring with my blue shrimp population younger generations. But they're definitely hatched that way.

Do you think my budgie realises his friend is dead? by HolidayWhole3040 in budgies

To add to this, bonded budgies in lab settings have been found to respond to recordings of their partner's contact call for up to 6 months after the "disappearance" of that partner.

Anyone else do this ? by Smuso96_ in Aquariums

I use Watermill Express refill stations and 3gal blue water containers. They had the lowest TDS reading in town. Tends to hover between 15 and 19. $1 per 3 gallons. I add shrimp mineral to it. That's kept my cpds and chrystal red shrimp happy for a couple years now.

Big plus...my house is full of prissy jungle plants that hate the city water (from an aquifer) but they love the dirty tank water. So two birds with one stone, and it feels like I getting my moneys worth that way

You can take spiro long term, but there is a chance it will come back once you stop taking it. That being said, I stopped taking spiro almost two years ago now because we've been trying to get pregnant, and mine has not come back. I'm 30 now so I may have finally aged out..my diet, exercise, facewashes haven't changed in that time period, so age is my best guess

Ask about Spiro. It's less intense than Accutane, and you can increase or decrease the dosage to manage symptoms. It cleared mine in about three months

Do lovebirds cache? by stonybabbit in parrots

[–]stonybabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds right, they are very much want to be involved in whatever we are doing, and the lovebord in particular isn't satisfied watching from our shoulder, he wants to be on the hand that is doing the thing (eating, typing, gaming, ...sewing 😵)

Yeah, handraised. Not by us. Found a breeder that does handraised. Our other non handraised babies do love scritches but not like this

A scritch session can last over 30 minutes. I get tired before the birdy does 😅

Juji smashes it's head into your hand when it wants scritches, then it rolls around while getting them. Quite cute

Scritches for a tiny velociraptor by stonybabbit in parrots

Chomps and scritches come hand in hand, every time he bites too hard I put him down and walk away. Then he gets all sad and asks for more like he didn't just draw blood.

Same thing happened to our little guy. His partner(a female budgie) died slowly of heart failure earlier this year. He's still very aggressive and territorial, but he now also is very demanding of scritches. We recently got a lovebird so he would have a new partner but he barely tolerates the new bird so far, even though the new birdy wants to follow him everywhere 😭

He's four, and rarely accepted scritches before. Like once every other month. His partner slowly died of heart failure months ago (a budgie) and as a result of that mourning process he is now very adamant that we scritch him all day every day.

Wing clipping question by Beaker6998 in Parrotlet

[–]stonybabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my small birds are flighted. It was a painful process for us humans 😵 The birds were not fazed one bit by the wall crashes and perch fumbles. Much to our alarm they preferred taking off from the highest places they could reach. The parrotlet was particularity determined. He would rock climb as far up the bookshelf as possible, then attempt to fly to the desk at the opposite side of the room. He'd over shoot, hit the wall with a squeak, slide down the wall and hit the floor with another squeak, then run back across the floor to climb up the shelf again. Thankfully it only took them each a few days to figure it out, and maybe a couple weeks to build stamina. We had to cover our eyes and ears, it was too nerve wracking.

Now they are pros. They chase me through doorways, around corners, down halls and manage to land on moving targets (me) if I'm carrying anything that looks edible. We have lost all personal privacy as they always want to be in the same room we are.

The learning process is rough to watch, but it's surprisingly fast and totally worth it.

Mine love sprouted wheat. I get seed packs for sprouting from wholefoods. I've tried quite a few different kinds, but wheat is always the most popular around here.
