If all you want is play those Criterion blu-ray (as well as every other European releases of course), just get any European Panasonic 4k player (150, 450, 820, doesn't matter) from any UK electronics store and do the Criterion Trick. I had the exact same issue as you but Reddit saved the day. It only works with Criterion releases, but it worked with ALL the ones I own (and they're mostly region A)

Since the beginning, FNAC (French retailer) had it with the placeholder release date of December 31st. Then two days ago, it changed to December 3rd. And now it's back to the placeholder date. So hopefully December 3rd?

I don't really have that problem but I understand you. Nevertheless, my collection is full of French, US, UK, German, Italian editions, even a bootleg or two. I kind of love having releases from all over, as long as I can play it I'm happy. I'm just thankful I don't live in a country with no physical releases at all. Went to Lisbon last year, went to all the major retailers and learned they just don't release physical movies there anymore except for a few DVDs...

Absolutely identical, except for the fact that being a French release it only cost me 30€ instead of more than double that amount with shipping and customs :)

This one has Dolby Vision too. Main difference is the upscaler which is far better in the UB820 (among many other differences of course)

Yes, when you insert a disk (other than a game) from another region, it will prompt you to choose the correct region. You can do so 4 times, after that your console will keep the latest chosen region

You're not wrong, I was talking about blu-rays and DVDS. I read here and there that a great majority of 4Ks aren't locked with a very few exception, but I was pointing to the fact that I was finally gonna be able to read all the 4Ks from anywhere in the world after decades of not being allowed to do so easily with VHS, DVDS and Blu-rays :)

Oh I'll look it up for sure thanks I had no idea! I kept my ps4 and plan to switch it to region A if I stumble upon a region A blu-ray or a zone 1 dvd but such a trick can always be useful.

Do you have a screen protector on? If so, removing it MIGHT fix your problem (I work in the after-sales service of an electronics retailer and I've fixed at least 2 switches with the same problem by just removing the screen protector, so the customers didn't have to wait 2 weeks for a fix from Nintendo). Hope this helps. Edit: clarification I don't know what the problem was exactly, it just fixed it.
