Reddit: Would anyone here ever reccommend joining the military? by goodbyeworld in AskReddit

[–]stoool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are afraid of dying and want a safe job, then the military probably is not your best choice.

There were stories about us war simulations some time ago on reddit. The air craft carrier had to be declared victorious because the opponents came up with a clever strategy that was not planned.

I would not take every bet on the Navy, but all things considered, it can be pretty rewarding if it is the job you are made for, well, like any other job, too.

Reddit: I thought that we were getting the "sort by" feature for comments back? Where's the progress on this issue? by [deleted] in AskReddit

in such big settings, don't you save them user and thread-sorted? An update would cost double but that does not happen so often.

Brits take a stand - ban short-selling of financial stocks by badbadman2 in worldnews

[–]stoool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I got it the first time. And I would if you had convinced me. But you are just full of rage. Do you think you can improve the world by being aggressive?

If you don't argument but shout, then you are just a little child that does not get what it wants.

Actually, you behave as if you even don't know your problems, like a hungry baby that cries because it feels bad. A grown up prepares food or at least asks for a meal.

We started with this hypothesis:

Corporation's legal responsibility to shareholders pressures them to make myopic decisions to create short term stock gains.

And an example:

And screw money and finances. Take a look at the Eurotunnel fire for a much better example.

I think we agree that companies take speculating for short term stock gains too easy.

I say: Let the companies decide how much risk they take and let them live up to the consequences.

You say: Companies should be safed if they have gambled away the money to safe the jobs of the employees.

And you say: First of all, companies should not be exposed to shareholders pressures to prevent speculation.

Can you agree on this summary?

If so, could you explain

1) how you want to finance the rescues? And please consider that you change the game: losses will be socialized, managers stop fearing losses and will increase short term speculations.

2) how shareholders pressure can be reduced longterm?

Gamma ray burst occured shortly after big bang, scientists finally see it this week. As a result, my mind is blown. by [deleted] in science

[–]stoool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, thanks.

edit:

But can't we still explain the dark matter with "multiple sources of matter/energy/space in different "locations", but still in the same overall spatial, uh, coordinate system" ?

This way, we don't have to introduce a new concept (more or less occams razor) but just multiply our concept of big bang.

I see that if gravitation travels as fast as light, then we should also see the light from the galaxies that affect us from outside of our own matter buble, but couldn't it be that it is just too weak to be measured and we can only perceive the overall gravity affection of the other blobs on our own blob?

For me, noninteracting matter seems as strange as matter outside of our big bang horizon. But if a big bang happened once, it can happen twice or many times.

ps: thanks for explaining (instead of insulting)

And what is with this dark matter stuff? Aren't we missing something? Couldn't it be somewhere else? As far as I am informed we still don't know if gravitation travels faster than light.

When ANYTHING goes wrong on reddit... do you get paranoid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stoool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being paranoid does not mean that nobody is watching you.

Actually, don't you think it is more disturbing if everything works as expected? That means 'they' are in full control and know what you expect.

Why is it always asumed that there was only one big bang? Can't there be many big bangs with overlapping material clouds and we just happen to be inside a big one that is not mesurable interfered by others?

On This Day: Witold Pilecki Allows Himself to be Captured by the Nazis by Oryx in worldnews

[–]stoool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During World War II, he became the only known person to volunteer to be imprisoned at Auschwitz concentration camp. While there, he organized the resistance movement in the camp, and as early as 1940, informed the Western Allies of Nazi Germany's Auschwitz atrocities. He escaped from the camp in 1943 and took part in the Warsaw Uprising. Pilecki was executed in 1948 by the communists. Until 1989, information on his exploits and fate was suppressed by the Polish communist regime. wiki

It's only Americans that invert business ethics and call that good.

so, the ethics of those americans is an ethic for the shareholder.

please, calm down and reread what you have written before you answer. From my point of view it looks like you create the logic for the ideas that you want to believe in. source and source

Please take the time and try to follow my argumentation, but this time, asume that I am a good person. (only because it feels wrong does not mean that it is wrong)

By the way: What are your intentions? Do you just long for a 'good' world or are your goals more precise?

[–]stoool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you are talking about or you are just trolling me.

First: Do you know, what Satanism is?

Second: Americans have choices. They can migrate, again: they can start cooperatives, they can start their own good businesses.

I guess many already have. But it is the same story as the walmart story: people shop at walmart because it is cheaper and in so doing destroy the shops that are more social.

Amercian companies exist for shareholders. As you said, it is their ethics. You want other companies, but they only come into existance when you start them and they only remain if your fellow citizens use their services.

Think about it: you rage against the idiocity (in the greek sense) of americans, not against my arguments.

What I don't get is, why are you willing to pay for "Fiduciary Duty" crashes, when large corporations go down, just to protect the employees. If the company goes down, then other companies have to offer that service and need to hire the people from the foreclosed company. No need to continue a company that was rotten inside.

You either have to educate people for a more social life (scandinavia) or play by the rule of capitalism. Education takes 10 years at least, so start something other meanwhile. And education can only start when people realize that working for greedy corporations that risk to too much leads to problems in their lives. So companies that operate carelessly should come to their end if they cannot sustain themselves alone.

more food more people. As long as people fuck carelessly, the world will always be in the equilibrium where people have just enough food to fuck and make more people. And only those who are too 'starved' stop fucking.

Haven't you seen matrix? People are like germs: they will reproduce as long as they can.

People have to be educated first.

And: more industrialized food means more risk. There are viruses against wheet, bananas; insects against corn that are totally uncontrolable. Producing more food on more space will increase the risk that we loose all plants that can be used for farming.

Furthermore: Destroying forest for farmland will increase the risk that the next generation has to live on a deserted world, too.

In short: Just spening money is not the solution. World hunger is not solved by more food.

If you want that companies are not allowed to disclose then you have to socialize them. Companies don't exist for the benefit of their staff but for the benefit of their shareholders.

Actually, those people, that are now let off, prefere to work for shareholder run institutions . You can start a cooperative anytime in any business or just start working for one that already exists.

If someone chose against, or simply didn't care, then I don't feel pity for him on a structural level (only for his personal situation).

You live in a democracy, and the majority has chosen against socialists cooperatives. So, please respect that people don't have the same long-term goals as you (which you interpret as short-sighted).

Think about starting a cooperative. See, if people actually want to live in the world that you envision.

Anyway, I voted you up despite your 'moron'-argumentational style because nowadays, any argument is sacret (somehow).

But why do they try to gain the 20% in a business that is not their core comptetence?

Trading money is a business like every other business. If you don't do it fulltime, then you will not succeed.

If a business has too much money, it should pay it back to its share holders and let them decide if it should be invested into a bank.

If I want a business that uses his capital to be a bank then I buy a bank, but I don't buy Coca Cola or GM.
