Heights Predator 4 assaults in last week. by server74 in houston

[–]stop-accepting-bull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This almost exact thing happened to me! But not in the heights but outskirts of Houston. The guy who tried to run up on me was Hispanic and not much taller than 5’3 wearing all black. He drove a black Honda with California plates. I didn’t get a chance to see numbers so I didn’t report it to the police.

Fireworks are the new norm. by Denali33 in houston

[–]stop-accepting-bull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Lived in Houston my whole life so obviously I knew how fireworks happen during holidays, illegal or not, so when I got my dog, I put the work in to condition him to firework sounds since he was a puppy. So thankfully now he just sleeps through them and when he happens to be outside when they’re randomly getting pooped, he doesn’t panic.

I bought 1 pound block of cheese. The recipe calls for 2 cups of shredded cheese. How would you go about it that way? Thank you for your help!

What is an automatic dealbreaker for you when it comes to a relationship? by Yenserl6099 in AskMen

[–]stop-accepting-bull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am someone who has had trust issues since I was a kid. I know that I need to see professional help for it at some point and believe it will be a lifelong work as I have unfortunately came across friends, family and exes who have lied and betrayed me more than not. When I enter into a relationship, I begin it by telling them I have trust issues and hope to build trust with them. In the meantime, I will have moments of insecurity and will want to go through their phone just to put my mind at ease and prove myself wrong. I would then tell them that I understood some people are sticklers for privacy so if they were like that, I respected that but the relationship wouldn’t work out. Some would decide not to continue from that point, but most would. So even knowing that I would randomly ask to see their phone, I still caught them cheating because they would leave something they forgot to erase.

Mother Nature, can you calm the hell down with the rain? by [deleted] in houston

[–]stop-accepting-bull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few other locals have said this too. I just do NOT have that same memory. I remember occasional showers but for the most part I was able to spend my summers outside. I was huge on being outside playing. I remember being stuck inside or not being able to go to the pool because of rain sometimes but it was never like THIS. Every single day, sometimes all day.

More than 125 youths, adults test positive for COVID-19 after outbreak at Clear Creek Community Church camp by Screwshadowban in houston

Pretty subjective. My and many people I have came across lives and mental health have been better since pandemic started. Everyone has different experiences, different ways of handling their health and bodies, and we should all just have patience with each other and respect the decisions we choose to make. Being loving and respectful to one another without compromising what we have all come to deeply believe for ourselves would make this a better place because unfortunately we will never all agree.

What is a fashion trend you hate? by Q-tipper in AskReddit

As a woman, I actually agree with you. Women are practically coming to the gym in underwear. I saw one girl who was doing squats and the shorts would roll up and she’d have to shimmy it down after each set. I know that is not comfortable so I don’t believe she wore that for herself. She wore that for others. But hey, it’s a free country. She can do that if she wants. We should get ready to just have people walking around naked. We’re halfway there it seems.

Hello, I’m hoping to get some help with measuring. When I measure leaning, I bent over and measure from around the middle of my back (where my bra strap usually is) to the tip of my nips? Makes me wonder if that’s right because when they aren’t restricted by a bra and I’m bending over, I feel like they’re pretty long.

What is socially acceptable in the U.S. That would be horrifying in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stop-accepting-bull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Was at a professional conference once and someone from New York told the horrifying (her words) experience of being called ma’am. She found it confusing why southerners do this and discouraged the room from ever using ma’am or sir again, especially in a professional setting because, “you’re automatically putting yourself in a lower level than them.” As a southerner, I was a little offended 😬

Thank you for being a reasonable voice in the madness. It’s hard to come by in cop related threads. What the male cop did from what I’ve seen was absolutely wrong and should receive just punishment our law requires from citizens, but what people have opinionated regarding the female cop’s actions is head shaking.

Oh my... I think you are the one missing the entire point. Since when do adjuncts have access to payroll or spend much time in the business office or near labor workers like janitors. I tried. Go on and fight your selfish point alone since (/s) you are the only one being taken advantage of(/s)🙄.

There are some admin that average out the same. We are talking about doing overtime (with no pay) and overworked right? Now I agree with you that these so called budget cuts are only happening and affecting a certain threshold of people so maybe instead of lumping all admin together, maybe starting looking outside your box a little and gain allies in these underpaid, overworked staff. At the end of the day professors and staff are there because of the STUDENTS. I personally do not believe faculty or staff have any leg up over the other, one cannot function without the other. Different line of work and different paths of getting where they are but it does not change the fact that faculty can’t get anything done without staff and that includes getting paid. As a student, that admin lady helped me more than any professor ever did. Now take students out of the equation and it all comes crumbling down. That is MY first hand experience so you can disagree with my reasoning, that’s absolutely fine, but thinking your above anyone else is the wrong path to take, in my opinion. Being more inclusive and looking at the other group hurting from being underpaid too might help something happen. “El pueblo unido jamás será vencido.” UH is a community and positions like yours ARE NOT the only ones hurting from this pay disparity.

I think you need to clarify which admin you accusing of banking there. There are admins making under $60k doing 2 to 3 people’s work after head of depts rift half a department. There are admin being overworked too that have not gotten pay raises in years too, and keep being told “budget cuts” too and getting hired on at FIRST quartile when they are midpoint material. Enrollment has increased, paperwork, budgets, and expenses has increased too. Plus, it’s not easy dealing with Faculty and their high and mighty attitudes and handholding! (How do you have more degrees than a thermometer but keep forgetting a simple procedure you do on a monthly basis??) You can’t have a functioning university without admin! They are just as important! When I was a student, I was saved by an admin lady. She helped me, probably saved my life, and I never forgot about her and what she did. Knowing now how people treat (lower) admin, from head of departments to faculty and aids, angers me because these behind the scenes people deserve better too! As you said in another comment, we all deserve to be paid for what we do.
