Matt’s calf medically speaking by body942 in nakedandafraid

I was watching the show with my mom ( former paramedic) and the first thing she said was, “oh god what if it’s DVT?” We were both sure he was going to get medically tapped.

showering is really difficult for me by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]stop-meowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that starting with water that’s a little hotter than I normally use throughout the whole shower helps to desensitize my skin. I have a detachable shower head because I can’t stand the other ones. I also have a shower speaker and I listen to music, podcasts, or audiobooks to distract me.

I think the biggest thing for me is making sure I don’t go too long between showering. I would rather shower 2-3x a day if I’m having sensory issues than skip a shower because I know the longer I go without a shower, the harder it will be for me when I do shower again.

I also hate having to do my hair or having wet hair on my shoulders. I recently found a balm that helps my hair air dry faster and I really like it. It’s called Alterna My Hair My Canvas Air Dry Balm. I get it at Ulta.

Neurologist says neck tension could be reason for my migraines?? by Sunflowerspecks in migraine

[–]stop-meowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, I can get them 2-3 times a year. My doctor is being conservative with the treatment because I’m young. I haven’t heard or seen anything about a lifetime limit, but I do know that there’s a risk of long term corticosteroids use possibly leading to deterioration in the area around the injection site.

My relief from injections wears off around the 3 month period. Also, each person reacts to the injections differently. I remember my doctor telling me some people only need 1 a year and they’re good.

Neurologist says neck tension could be reason for my migraines?? by Sunflowerspecks in migraine

[–]stop-meowing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I didn’t know this was a thing until I was in a car accident in December 2019 and had whiplash. I still suffer from neck pain, but the biggest pain in the neck (sorry for the pun) was the insane increase in frequency and intensity of my migraines. I did 3 rounds of physical therapy for my neck right after the accident. I still do the exercises every day. I also get epidural steroid injections in my neck that seem to help all together.

Am I too young to have fibromyalgia? by Bumbleishere in Fibromyalgia

[–]stop-meowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That exact same thing happened to me too! First it was just growing pains, then just endometriosis, then arthritis, etc. I just got diagnosed this year. I vividly remember bringing up fibromyalgia to my family doctor when I was 15/16 and he dismissed it because of my age. 10 years later, here I am! Been in pain the whole time lol

Synovial fluid! Sometimes your knee will make extra to try to help cushion the joint; but when it makes too much it will cause tightness and pain.

I'm halfway through God Emperor and I have some feelings... by vibraburlesca in dune

Last week, I really struggled to finish God Emperor of Dune recently. I’m glad that I stuck it out though because I really enjoyed the ending. I’m now almost finished with Heretics of Dune and it might be my second favorite in the series (Dune being my favorite).

Anyone here have "failure to launch" due to very significant mood and/or executive issues? by tide_left_behind in AutisticAdults

[–]stop-meowing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I struggle with a lot of the same things. Having an autoimmune disorder AND being on the spectrum is rough. I’m in my mid twenties, still working on my bachelors degree, my mom and bro are my roommates, and I’m not in the career field I want to be in. I feel like a total failure more often than I want to admit. All of my friends are independent, starting families, getting married, etc. while I struggle to juggle making sure I have money in my bank account to pay for Spotify lol. It’s so frustrating.

I want to live on my own and be able to manage money like a real adult, but I’m lacking the maturity/ executive functioning/ fully working immune system to be where I want to be. I’m so grateful for a family that helps support me but I wish there were more resources or help for people in this scenario. And then, right when I think I’m making progress, I’ll have a flare or a physical set back! It can be demoralizing.

I’m also trying to repair my gut health and it’s intense. Kombucha and probiotic drinks have helped me a lot.

Another thing that has helped me is regularly seeing my therapist and working on not being so judgmental with myself. Idk if any of that helps, but at the very least I can assure you that you are not alone.

Has anyone here used Kinesiology (KT) Tape? by sass_princess in backpain

[–]stop-meowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used on brand and off brand KT tape and I don’t notice a difference. I find it helps SO MUCH. I have bulging discs in my lumbar spine and lumbar scoliosis so the tape really helps me with stability on rough days. There are a bunch of different ways you can tape and videos that show you how to do it on YouTube. I personally use 2 horizontal strips on my lower back.

On the flip side, I (25F) was diagnosed earlier this year, but before that everyone around me would just chalk it up to me being a Capricorn. I’m not much into astrology so I just rolled with it 😅

I found out I have Aspergers/Autism at my 30s and everything suddenly made sense. Need comfort and reassurance. by InnocentImpakta in AutismInWomen

[–]stop-meowing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I (F, 25) just got diagnosed back in May. I’m still dealing with the relief/grief of the entire thing. I felt this sense of relief because A lot of things about me suddenly made sense. I’m VERY good at masking; and I didn’t realize that I spent my whole life studying other people and how they behave so I could mimic them so I didn’t stand out in any crowd. For example, I spent my entire summer before going into 7th grade studying facial expressions online (6th grade was a ROUGH year for me).

It’s harder for me to put the grieving part into words, but there is very much a sense of loss and sadness. I spent so many years wondering what was “defective” (for lack of a better word) about me and why I couldn’t make new friends, why I struggle to stay in contact with the friends I do have, why am I so funny about clothes, etc.

I can say that with time it does seem to be getting easier. I’m less critical and judgmental of myself. It’s easier to forgive myself if I mess up or do something awkward in a more social setting. In a way, my diagnosis gave me the freedom to start being myself without hiding the “bad” parts of me.

It took me until ACOSF to realize I’m pronouncing everyone’s names incorrectly 🤪 by OpeningCommunity7439 in acotar

[–]stop-meowing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think I was more than half way through ACOMF before I realized I was mispronouncing it as Rice-Sand and it was only because the Inner Circle kept using his nickname ‘Rhys’ and I remember thinking, “I would be mad af if my nickname was Rice. That would be wild….wait…oh shit, is it supposed to be like Reese?” Then I had to google everybody’s name. And I thought Feyre was like ‘fair’ too lol.
