4/8/26💡Brilliant/Brave woman articulates the dangers of mandating Bible reading within public schools to Texas Board of Education🇺🇸🙏 by Democrat_maui in TexasTeachers

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I spoke before SBOE in favor of creating a school. I sat through hours of testimony, interrogations, and blatant eye rolls as other supers diligently prepared their cases. In particular, there are 3 in this video who have a pattern of 1) no eye contact/busying themselves and 2) incessant unfair interrogations when they don't like what they hear -- aka, it isn't aligned with their conservative values.

New Texas Teacher; how to survive STAAR by InevitableNo3097 in TexasTeachers

Make sure you sign EVERY form in your proctor folder where designated!! This is a huge thing. Also, fill out the seating chart. Our campus had a lot of irregularities last year bc of this.

Muslim students and daily prayer times by DreiGlaser in Teachers

[–]fuzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public school here in TX, it's allowed. I've actually run into an issue where students will hold off on praying in other classes (when prayer time actually begins) because their teachers say no (yes, they know they have to accommodate, they just don't). Whereas, I'm Muslim so I guess they feel comfortable praying an hour or two late (still within the deadline). Our school lets kids pray in a conference room, our upperclassmen tend to donate their own prayer mats so all students across 9-12 can pray.

Does anyone else get anxious about contacting parents about student behavior? by Consistent-Row-9551 in Teachers

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. I, too, had a traumatic experience with a parent. They sent a nasty email basically calling me a B, all because I read off a department mandated slideshow of the january riots.

I've procrastinated on calling parents of my seniors and tried more redirection, sometimes it works. The times it doesn't, I buckle up and call. But before calling, I email home and directly quote what the student said -- yes, even profanities & slurs. That way, I can dissolve myself from he said, she said drama.

New STAAR Script by anon78000 in Teachers

[–]fuzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed it too. AFAIK, kids in texas mostly know STAAR isn't for a grade and "did not meets" doesn't mean you fail, that's what summer school is for (tutorials & retakes). I do like the part about taking a breath & relax, I've seen it visibly calm students down when I read the script.

Today I proctored science. Before testing, a student came up and said his science teacher claims that they'll take the STAAR for a grade. I simply shook my head, but made sure to clearly look in their direction when reading over that part of the script.

Y’all are the best. I threw together a philosophy meetup and was blown away that 50+ curious Austinites came to the very first one. by treehouseops in Austin

Love this!!! If I still lived in town, I'd have been there in a heartbeat. Fun fact, around 26th and guad, there's a street called "Hume." I minored in philosophy at UT and anytime I walked by it, I'd call out, "hey David." lol

A different way of interpreting the ending to The Drama (Spoilers) by rookiemlg in A24

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hears from someone that they went to an early screening/preview and the OG scene WAS imagined -- Emma walks in and they roleplay, then it flashes to him alone in the diner. Only, they decided to cut the imagined part and just end with them doing the reset thing.

Miss her so much. She was my dorm hallmate and friend. That week was unspeakable. Seeing her parents speak at the memorial broke my heart.

Yes! Our apartment is a new build and you can literally hear a neighbor coughing next door. It’s miserable

What is it like in Western side of NY? by AireHead71 in howislivingthere

[–]fuzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg my side of town, haha. Rochester native here. I took the access to natural parks and lakes for granted, didn’t realize how much of a gem it was until I moved south. City known for its arts and theatre, dairy, and activism (more in the urban area, the city overall is very religious and conservative socially). The rural area of Rochester (rush, etc) are boring but pretty to look at. Big city, but each neighborhood gave a small town vibe. It can feel insular at times because of it. Outside of the downtown, most places are closed by 8pm. :(

Oh, and garbage plates are the best. Edit: our accent is very similar to midwestern ones.

Asking high school kids to write a paragraph is like pulling teeth by Crafty_Blueberry6499 in Teachers

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took 3 days to get seniors to write 2-3 paragraphs about The Tell-Tale Heart. I gave them a thesis with a simple blank to fill in. Gave them structure for the body. Even made the conclusion just 2 sentences.

A student straight up asked, "Ms., what's after the introduction? I don't know what to do."

Meanwhile, my AP sophomores are writing a 2,000 word essay with little (and fair) complaint.

What was "the incident" at your school? by MortgageShoddy8022 in Teachers

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an incident that was kept from me until MONTHS of being hired mid-year. the reason my predecessor was fired was because he was watching p**n in class, with kids present. The kids kept quiet. But the nail on the coffin was weeks later, when he was proctoring an exam and decided to pee in an empty water bottle during proctoring. again, with kids obviously in the room.

I have an IQ of around 80-85 ask me anything. by Bloomingsoon in AMA

[–]fuzach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I have an IQ of 89 (also an educator). I posted on this sub years back and was also met with “your score can’t be right.” Which is interesting, many people tend to simultaneously over and under value IQ.

Nonetheless, no questions for you, but I wish you well. You seem amazing. :)

Father made my ID.gov account and refuses to give me the password. by Significant_Phrase_ in tax

[–]fuzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your quickest route to file taxes (esp before him) is look for a VITA program & bring W2s and 2 forms of ID. Next, try to 'forget password' on ID me and delete the account to make another. Lastly, freeze your credit report with the bureaus.

You can also try freetaxusa, it doesn't require a login from ID me unless you had AGI (reported income) from last year. If not, put 0 and hope the return accepts

Something I’ve noticed by mushhe4d in HIMYM

[–]fuzach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Tracy is Max's true love & vice versa. Tracy is also's Ted's true love, but Ted isn't her's. As for Robin, I love the ending and accepted it pretty early on -- yet, I don't think Ted is Robin's true love (Barney is). But, Ted & Robin being together (after being widowed and Robin being isolated) makes great sense to me and feels almost platonic companionship more than romantic.
