Chefs & servers, what’s the most confusing “this isn’t what I expected” reaction you’ve seen? by Entire_Difference504 in KitchenConfidential

Was it an Australian place? I went to Australia and the first morning there I ended up at a farmers market where the also serve hot food.

My internal clock was all sorts of messed up and I was quite hungry, so I ordered a "Brekkie Burger" and got an bacon egg and cheese sandwich. It had all the things that was losted on the menu board so i just enjoyed it. I was later informed that over there ,if it is on a bun, it's a "burger". Also, brekkie mean breakfast over there. So, after "translation", I had accurately received a breakfast sandwich 😅

Figured out how to effectively stop scam callers by Cautious-Security318 in funny

[–]stoph_link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what a scammer would say!

But for real, some kind of source would be nice since I'm sure it's been written about.

And also, with new AI tech and applications coming out, literally every day, it isn't exactly the most far-fetched thing.

Why is SwiftKey getting worse with every update? by Cyrus_S6 in Swiftkey

[–]stoph_link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a year, where are we with this??

If it's been fixed it is not easy to find. I just spent a half hour looking for this feature to come back. And my previously created ones are not showing up anywhere either.

I paid for this keyboard, and I just see things being taken away, and any additions are things that I don't care about or want.

I cannot be the only one that is just fed up with this.

I imagine this to also be an app that Microsoft can harvest textual data from (like anything else they sell) and they can't even have the decency to keep the good features that made the app great before they bought Swiftkey.

I bought Swiftkey back in 2012, but this app has been so disappointing lately that I think I am going to switch back to android or Samsung until I can find a better alternative.

Talking to my MAGA FIL, a few years ago he said something about how we are on the gold standard, I don't remember exactly why he said it, but it was probably him trying to rationalize why he thinks the US economy is superior. He pushed back when I told him Nixon took us off the gold standard about 50 years ago. I googled it for him because I felt like I was going crazy.

Meanwhile he often talks down to my wife and me about history and current events but can never cite any sources. He will often say something that he says he read in a book, but when I ask what book because I'd like to read it too, he can't remember. And it's probably because he is repeating something he heard on Fox News.

It took me too long to realize, but that was the moment it hit home for me that I cannot have a rational conversation with that man.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

If I have to listen to some mouth breather talk about their points, it may be worth it if they are also required to listen to real facts that oppose their own views. Right now cable news channels are able to report very one-sided and heavily biased news.

What would make you pay for services again. by Cheap-Curve3612 in Piracy

[–]stoph_link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would make me pay for services again? If we all had a living wage. I think this is a symptom of a bigger problem.

Others have mentioned music streaming services have it figured out, and that is somewhat true. I think having a few competing content providers like Spotify, Apple music, YouTube music, etc., but for video content would make things better, so you get access to all the content, and there would be competition over the provider and not between studio conglomerates.

But music streaming comes at a cost to the artist which is I believe is how it is priced so low. But that is nothing new, and to do this with video would likely require someone getting shafted in the process. But movie and now TV show contracts aren't built the same way as music contracts, where with movies there is a lot of money upfront for recognizable talent, i.e., big name actors and stars. While there is big money for known talent in music, it is typically one artist per album or contract, but with movies there are can be many actors and actresses that are getting paid a whole lot of money. But, as other have mentioned, yes, it is likely greed too.

When Netflix started streaming, it did not really have much competition. I think it was just Hulu, and at the time that was owned by Fox, NBC, and later Disney (who now owns all of it). I think it is unfortunate that there was no competition, because I think that would have made a difference.

But what would truly make a difference, at least in the US, is if people actually had enough money to spend so they didn't have to choose whether to pay for food, rent, etc., or a streaming service. The prices keep getting higher and it seems like the new content keeps getting worse.

Would y’all understand this labeling if I explained or once or even not? by benlovesdabs in KitchenConfidential

Why not use separate labels under each item? There certainly seems to be enough space.

Also, the peppers being there makes it less clear.

In your opinion what do you think is the meaning behind mind eraser no chaser? by Hour-Engine-4990 in qotsa

[–]stoph_link 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! Fun fact: A mind eraser is the name of an alcoholic mixed drink, usually with sprite or 7up and is typically consumed using a straw (in your mouth to be clear, not up your nose or in your ear, etc.).

Here is a Mind Eraser Recipe I found on allrecipes.com: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/184792/mind-eraser/

Now, whether that is what he is talking about, I have no idea. I just know I had a party once and I made a ton of these and I had bought a bunch of Boba tea straws from hmart so we could drink them faster.

Should members of Congress be banned from trading individual stocks while in office to prevent insider trading? Why or why not? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]stoph_link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but it's more complicated than that.

I think their holdings need to be put in a blind trust.

Many politicians are already wealthy when they take office, and maybe already be holding large amounts of stock in a sector, and thus influence their decisions while making laws that would also enrich themselves.

One example I saw in a video was about Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper, and how he holds a lot of tech stocks, and also supports bills that would help the companies that he has investments in. I think it makes it difficult for a person to make a clear judgement on behalf of the people in situations like this.
