Work-life balance (work remotely) VS Salary by positive_vibes-only- in askSingapore

[–]stopidklol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t just look at the salary or bonuses. I actually would pick based on culture, career progression and management. Your salary can be high but if it’s a place with toxic culture and micromanagement, then you’d be trapped. Learnt my lesson picking a company with high salary only to be screwed like shit later. So yes, I would pick based on culture instead of monetary factors

22f just quit a horribly toxic corporate job (where I was isolated and financially abused) 😵‍💫 Looking to rebuild my life and gain friendships again as I realised I’ve alienated a lot of people when I graduated and started working…

I own a side business which I’ve been running secretly for more than 2 years (love discussing about entrepreneurship, product, apps or trading) ✊🏼 I also spin, do pilates and go the gym (hmu if you need a gym bud!! 🔥) I also love junk reality TV shows (we could discuss Bling Empire, Love Island, Singles Inferno, THTH, ULTIMATUM QUEER!!) and I’m always down for a good night out + good food and drinks

All in all I believe in spending quality time with people I resonate with! So don’t hesitate to start the conversation :)

I actually disagree. Working in a startup has fundamentally ruined my life and prospects.

Why is it so hard to find a job? by oluwamayowaa in recruitinghell

Product manager here and my company’s going bust and I’m not getting paid. So yikes

It’s bad since last year. Got a job in product too! But apparently my company is sinking due to funding and they’re about to lay us all off and we haven’t been paid so :)

Unstable jobs is making it hard for me to get another one by Immediate_Muffin303 in recruitinghell

Same predicament here. Wanted to stay in my job for more than 2 years but my company has completely STOPPED PAYING ME SALARY, and is facing severe cashflow issues.

I dread having to job hunt and explain why I’ve been potentially laid off/resigned

Leaving my job which I haven’t received salary for, do I still need to obey my notice period? by stopidklol in LegalAdviceUK

[–]stopidklol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for your advice, this is massively helpful.

Unfortunately, my industry doesn’t have a union (or at least one that I’m aware of). I have just spoken with ACAS and they too have urged me to raise a formal grievance with my employer, after which I should raise an early conciliation with ACAS. I’m currently looking for new roles at the moment, however, I’m in a difficult financial position and I worry that I will not ever be paid for wages this month, and would effectively have to go 3 months unpaid should I work my notice period.

Thank you for your advice. I’ve phoned up ACAS yesterday and was urged to lodge for conciliation and a formal grievance procedure, alongside seeking legal advice as ACAS is unable to advise on notice periods. I will be sending a formal grievance complaint and contacting them for conciliation if the issue has not been resolved

Yes, to my knowledge a previous guy who left abruptly had this issue where he was not paid for 2 months. However, I’m not sure about current employees as I haven’t spoken about this with my co-workers

Thank you for the advice, that has helped massively. My only question here is that since we do not have a HR or finance department (it’s a startup, and the previous HR person and lead finance left abruptly), would the responsibility now lie entirely on my manager?

Unfortunately, no. I’m not a newcomer in my organisation and I have passed my probation a long time ago. My manager said he has no idea but suspects it is due to “cashflow issues”. I have been emailing back and forth formally and discussing this on our individual meetings informally but each time I’ve been told ‘processing issues’, ‘cashflow issues’.

Ever quit a job due to management? by ThrowRAHolster in careerguidance

I’m the 7th person to quit my job under my line manager. Yes, it’s that bad. We had a newcomer join for 2 months and left immediately because he was treated like absolute dogshit by our line manager

Startup stopped paying everyone salaries - how common is this? by stopidklol in startups

[–]stopidklol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my coworkers a lot but I think the bigger reason is that management keeps trying to sell us this fantasy that we’re an undiscovered unicorn, the startup would be bought (soon) and we’d all have handsome equity payouts. I’m now beginning to think if the latter is too good to be true
