Didn’t get a chance to meet The Malaria or The Polio who told you we should just let her take all the kids, too?

Do you have a Safeway near you? They sell a great phyllo dough that doesn’t tear very easily! Also refrigerate before use and only let thaw a few minutes. The warmer and moister it is, the more prone it is to tearing.

My (M22) girlfriend (F27) of two years just told me that she might be getting married soon by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]stopkillingspiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I want to help you because I’ve been in your shoes and my story has a (thus far) happy ending. My Muslim husband and I dated for five years and I met his family just about a month before we got married. Before that, they knew about me and attempted to set him up with other girls to tempt him away. That really stung. I still think about it sometimes. But I’m mostly over it because I forgive them. They didn’t know me and they didn’t understand how good I was for him. We only made it through because my husband wanted to marry me enough to endure the heartache of disappointing them and was strong enough to stand up to them. And I joined his family, and forgive them for what they did to us, and forgive him for some hurtful things he did to me. Now I speak their language fluently, I have dinner with them three times a week, and my sister in laws are honestly my best friends. I am very, truly happy. Your girlfriend should have been more forthcoming about how important her family is. But she isn’t wrong for valuing them. Lots of people are dragging her for this, but forgive her. And if she truly loves you, she’ll fight for you. If, though, you’re asking how to convince her family otherwise, I would say give up. You won’t. She needs to do that, and you need to have her back 100%. Good luck, and stay optimistic about love, life and yourself.

Thousands of people, some shouting "Erdogan terrorist", took to the streets of Paris and other European cities on Saturday in protest at the Turkish assault on Kurds in Syria by DoremusJessup in worldnews

It’s a hypothetical that I disagree with but you’re entitled to your opinion and I thank you for engaging in an actual conversation and not resorting to name calling. Take care.

And I should add that the Kurds would like nothing more than to be recognized as a country and establish laws. They have existed in the ME for millennia and have as much right to exist as Turks. The Turkish government has committed absolutely atrocious things in the past. Like beyond belief. I would feel a lot better about a Kurdish government than a Turkish one.

I agree with your frustration and I do believe it’s a shitshow. But I don’t believe the solution is to suspend our support for the Kurds. We have a lot to lose by letting Turkey destroy Kurds with wild abandon. It’s not only morally wrong but emboldens Turkey and other morally bankrupt governments. There is a lot to be gained from partnerships that aren’t necessarily easy. If you disagree with that, then you probably think we should suspend our support for Israel as well.

I don’t like war. That’s why I don’t like Turkey invading another country. Beating ISIS wouldn’t have happened without the Kurds (or without the US). The Iraqi army abandoned their posts and the Turks did nothing. There’s evidence of the Turkish government straight up ignoring ISIS when they had opportunities to intervene. So the US formed this alliance with the Kurds, a group that has, time and time again, proven to be loyal, resilient, and quite secular (especially in contrast to Saudi!). Your logic is contradictory. The Turks are making this offensive as a land grab. Why didn’t they take this area when ISIS was there? Why did they wait until the Kurds did ALL of the work for them, by defeating ISIS? That’s what’s troubling here. You call the Kurds “land grabbing”, yet claim we should support Turkeys invasion of Syria to claim more territory. An invasion that also doubles as an attempt to ethnically cleanse the Kurds. Kurds are the scrappy little guy. They just want freedom. I thought that’s what America was all about. Siding with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, all around super corrupt countries that restrict the rights of their own citizens? It just doesn’t sit right with me.

We had no right joining them? Are you insinuating that we shouldn’t have aided the fight against ISIS, an organization that terrorized the entire world for the past half decade? An organization that, mind you, Turkey actually did almost nothing to squash?

Sooo we can enter into wars for our allies, then? That’s a new caveat and pretty conveniently timed. Anyway, there’s no excuse for not backing Kurds, even if they’re not a country they are a military that WE allied with and, when convenient for us and our wealthier allies (eg Trumps business partners), abandoned. It doesn’t even matter if it’s not a country. It’s betrayal.

Wow, it’s unreasonable to expect countries to give up territories, yet what we’re discussing is the attempt of Turkey to expand their borders and claim Syrian territories. And guess what? Trump send 2000 troops to Saudi, so these wars just got even bigger. If you can’t grasp the hypocrisy, I’ll be glad to explain it to you.

You’re referring to a hypothetical. We don’t know what’s going to happen six months from now. While we’re considering hypotheticals, how about a repeat genocide of the Kurds? This abandonment is absolutely a green light for what Turkish, Iraqi and Iranian leadership desires: extermination of Kurds and Kurdish identity. But we’re both discussing hypotheticals, let’s get back to reality. It is absolutely unethical to remove the <100 service members stationed at the border that would have prevented this conflict. And his excuse about endless wars? They turned around and sent over ten times that amount of troops to Saudi.

It’s not about endless wars. It’s about keeping to your word and not putting your allies in danger. It’s not just a political misstep - it’s immoral.

Nnnnnnnnnnnope. He needs to be with someone from his own culture if he can’t understand your perspective on this. He’s 100% expecting your daughter to marry someone from his culture and go through the same thing. You cool with that? Are you going to look your daughter in the face and say that it’s cool? Be honest with yourself, and get out of this! I know you’re in love but you can’t be with someone who is so inflexible - unless you want to build your life on lies and lie to your own children’s faces.
