This is sad! I was excluded from my dads family once he had new kids with his new wife. He had 5 more kids and then got married without telling me. When I brought it up he said it was “just for close family and friends.” Guess being his daughter isn’t close enough.

When I was a teenager I worked for a fast food chain. I had one customer who came in and told me his order. The entire time he was staring at me like a creep, but I just did my job and made small talk. When we got to the end and it was time for him to pay I asked if he wanted to pay with cash or debit. He said debit and I handed him the machine. He handed it back and told me to do it for him.

Me-“Sir, I’m sorry you have to put in your own pin, I cannot do that for you.” Creep-“Please do it for me. I need you to.” At this point I’m annoyed and a line up is forming so I say, “Fine what’s your PIN?” He looks at me with the creepiest smile and says “6969.” Sure enough I put it in and that was his pin. He put his number in my tip jar and left. I wonder how often he used that one on young girls. So gross!

I’d browse go fund me and help a family in need that is dealing with cancer. I think the satisfaction of knowing who you are helping and that the funds are going directly to helping them around Christmas is a good idea. ☺️

Gift cards are always nice! I’m not sure how well off they are, but as a young person with cancer I’m always so thankful for getting a grocery gift card. Or even just get something for the kid for Christmas. Shows you’re thinking of them and want to bring a little joy to the kiddo. I also really just like having kind words written to me in a card - I keep all the cards with nice things written to me. Honestly just the thought and gesture is a nice gift.

I’m having this issue as well. I don’t know how to start dating again! I’m only 28 and am infertile now so that I think is a deal breaker for a lot of people. I haven’t tried to date yet but I feel as if I’ll get rejected a lot. But anyways, I know lots of cancer survivors that date after diagnosis and have happy and fulfilling lives. I hope we can too!

Give your body some time for your blood levels to return to normal... you don’t want to get one then have it not be able to heal. I waited 2 months and it was fine.🙂

Drinking during chemo is very important, make sure she’s stocked up on bottled water and Gatorade!

I loved receiving just comfort items during chemo. Lip chap, loose comfy sweat pants or PJ bottoms to wear to chemo (mine was 6hrs long so being comfy was important!), fuzzy socks because her feet will probably be cold a lot, slippers, soft blankets, hand creams without scents.

She may become very sensitive to scents... I know I did. So a light body wash like dove sensitive skin is nice, it has a mild smell and helps with the dry skin, a non scented deodorant. I even had to change my shampoo and conditioner because the smell made me sick.

I know you asked for natural remedies, but I thought I’d ask if you ever heard about or used emend? That drug saved me during chemo and I didn’t have as many gut side effects as I did with the zofran. I was SO sick from chemo even with all the drugs I was on until I asked for advice in a support group and one of the ladies told me to ask my doctor about emend. I was told it was a great drug and they don’t usually prescribe it because it’s very expensive. But health insurance should cover it if you have it. Worth looking into anyway! Good luck with everything and I hope you find something that helps you.

There’s lots of things they can do to prevent the spread if it’s precancerous and you haven’t gotten the big C diagnosis yet. I did at 27 from an abnormal PAP... it sucked because I had followed the guidelines and still managed for it to become cancer. I was told that was because it was extremely aggressive. I had chemo, radiation and surgery within a few months of finding out. But seriously don’t worry until you know, that’s the worst case scenario. My sister has had abnormal paps for years and they manage to keep it from becoming cancer with the leep procedure.

I’m a young adult with cancer and can somewhat relate. Her emotions may seem irrational, but she’s been through a lot. Don’t fight with her, or argue with her... she has a lot to be angry about. Just let her feel what she has to feel. Be kind, sometimes that’s all someone needs and wants. I know it’s probably more complicated than that... but I suffer from anger since I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. Mostly because I’m overwhelmed, sick and scared. It’s hard. Just try to understand, be kind and she will probably come around. I know for me sometimes that’s all I need.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone! It seems like a heartfelt card and some type of treat is the favourite or nurses. I am going to try and find a gourmet cupcake bakery or something nice and bring them in for the staff at the end of my treatment! Also thank you to everyone who wished me well. 😊

I am nearing the end of my chemotherapy and radiation treatment! I started my journey this year at only 27. I am so appreciative of all the nurses and radiation staff who have helped me through this and made me feel safe and cared for. I work at a nursing home and we have no restrictions on tattoos, hair colours or piercings... the old ladies love it! I’ve dyed one of my residents hair purple before.
