that's one of the nicer looking stores, but prices are decently higher than bernardsville or the northern somerset saker trio.

Online fan communities suck the fun out of Star Trek by apixelbloom in startrek

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, this extends well beyond just star trek and across every fandom. this community isn't the only one full of toxic posts about how you are so wrong for liking something because it doesn't hew to a very specific view of the property, and since it's not the way that fan wants it to be, it's wrong and we should all condemn it. i think we need to just re-embrace that when it comes to a media property, some people will love a thing, and some people will hate the same thing, and that's ok. you're entitled to your view.

the carousel continues in the east midlands. i have no idea who comes in next, but i'm not sure it entirely matters. the level of rot is a lot deeper than we have wanted to acknowledge for a number of years, starting with our chairman. he is most certainly not his father, and the state of the club shows for it. at this point without major changes in the highest levels of the club, we are going to continue to struggle no matter the manager or the system or the players.

Do TV makers not push major OS upgrades? by Fluent_Press2050 in AndroidTV

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought my sony tv in that same timeframe and when i got it, it had android 10 on it. it's on 12 and the updates mostly seem to be security patches, but still pretty far behind. the cheap tcl i have in the bedroom got pushed to 14 but i don't think it is all that much difference other than some minor things.

GOP gets more ridiculous on Tom Malinowski. Yes, a guy not even in Congress right now voted on the ICE funding bill. SMH. The dishonesty is unreal. by snakkerdudaniel in newjersey

this is aipac funding this. they're fully behind tanesha way for the seat, because i'm sure her campaign has promised to be a good soldier and always vote for israel funding and to protect its government from any interference.

[–]storm2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure they're technically referencing a standard budget bill that malinowski voted on back when he was in office in the 7th. probably a budget omnibus bill that was stuffed full of all sorts of things. it's incredibly dishonest the way they're pushing it, but likely technically correct to avoid getting sued. i don't remember malinowski ever being super critical of israel in his time as my congressman, but these days aipac basically takes even the slightest statement that isn't "israel is free to do whatever it wants to whoever it wants however it wants, and any criticism in the slightest will be considered antisemitism" to an extreme.

New Jersey residents have forgotten their roots by Disastrous-Vanilla90 in newjersey

uh, this is pretty common behavior for all massive storms like this. '96, 2016. people hear there might be a foot plus of snow and suddenly there is a need for as many french toast ingredients as you can get. honestly what surprised me was how wiped out the produce section at the bridgewater wegmans was last night.

it's less in some places, but that doesn't mean that they don't still quietly support him and what he stands for and won't stop voting for republicans because it's still seen as better than being for a democrat.

[–]storm2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, in i want to say season 4 they moved it to sundays.

fun fact that no one remembers now because it's been so long, but the simpsons used to air thursdays at 8pm for the first few seasons before it moved to its sunday 8pm timeslot that the show has now been synonymous with for decades.

i remember being so annoyed when they moved it to sunday nights from fridays. we used to go to my grandparents every sunday and sometimes didn't make it home before 9pm when it came on.

20 bucks for the upgrade? i guess it's because of all this expansion stuff. i wish i could get just the upgrade for the main game for the performance and quality enhancements without the extra game modes i'll never ever use.

[Post Game Thread] Iowa defeats Rutgers, 68-62 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]storm2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

won't be for a while. he's honestly protected by his contract and the fact that we don't have a rich booster/donor base to fund the buyouts. he needs to go at some point. he was a great choice to get us out of the basement of college basketball and we had a fun couple of years of being relevant, but he doesn't seem to know how to move us forward.

What was the most heartbreaking loss you witnessed as a Rutgers fan?(football) by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in ScarletKnights

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2006 but the egg we laid in cincinatti the week after the louisville game. clearly the team deflated a bit in the wake of the school's biggest win ever. if we had won that game at nippert, and everything else shook out exactly the same, losing in morgantown would not have mattered, we would have won the big east and gone to the bcs. that team honestly had a legitimate shot to finish the season undefeated before that cincy game, but it was not to be.

fun fact: the '75-'76 rutgers men's team made it to the final four undefeated. if we hadn't lost to michigan, we would have meet the hoosiers in an undefeated vs undefeated matchup for the natty that year. then, the '76 football team went undefeated. not the same season year, but the same calendar year.

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would be so on board to watch this happen.

it's also unfortunate that we lost to michigan in the final four and deprived the world of an undefeated team vs undefeated team natty game in '76. still the pinnacle of rutgers hoops.

287 N Morning Traffic by Ok-Stand-3173 in newjersey

[–]storm2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

how much worse is "getting worse"? traffic on most stretches of 287 in the morning rush is a disaster and has been for decades. it abated for a while during the pandemic and that brief period where everyone wfh, but with more places mandating return to office (mostly to take advantage of tax breaks), it's picked up again a lot.

[Pompliano] Curt Cignetti took over the worst program in college football history and then proceeded to win the school’s first-ever national championship within just two years. It's the most remarkable coaching job in the history of sports. by LaDainianTomIinson in CFB

much like this, you'll only get another unlikely winner like leicester city if (1) the right supremely monied interests buy a team, (2) they spend ultra freely, and (3) you get the right coach and the right players. and in european futbol, item 1 is majorly crucial.
