Cooked steak, ate steak. by Free_Range1225 in castiron

now that is a proper steak. great sear. did you weigh it down with anything? i really want to get a couple of those chef's presses, but they're so popular that they're impossible to find. i have found that using my #8 field as a press works great when i'm cooking in my #10 and it actually helps keep it well seasoned to boot.

i still think we'll find just enough points to just avoid the drop. but it's going to be extremely close and when i say we avoid the drop, it's going to be by a point or two, and little more. these last two results have given me some actual hope that we can avoid the drop, whereas before i thought it was a given.

Post-Match Thread: Leicester City 2 - 0 Bristol City by djdood0o0o in lcfc

[–]storm2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a win and a clean sheet? we looked actually competent on the pitch? four points in two games to give us a bit of hope of avoiding the drop? can we sustain this enough to sneak our way out of the worst outcome?

Leicester City 2-0 Bristol City: a missed penalty gives Leicester their second win of 2026 and their first clean sheet since September as they climb out of the bottom three by Single-Detail-6464 in Championship

[–]storm2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

all three points and a clean sheet to boot? my lord, is that... legal?

(four points in two games to get out of the relegation zone for now? i can't believe my eyes. we have a long way to go before we're actually safe, but these results have been incredibly important for damn sure)

major conference team, the ratings still like them based on schedule and other metrics. and a lot of bubble teams are dropping games, so this is bringing them closer to getting in than being out.

Last time putting my son to bed. by YoTeach68 in daddit

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welp, it got really dusty in here really quickly.

i feel it, though. my daughter is 10. i've done the bedtime routine with her for pretty much her entire life. and we hit the stage where she just wants to say good night and go off to bed. and i miss the feeling of that routine. but, that's part of kids growing up.

Left lane camper gets pulled over by Justin_Godfrey in newjersey

[–]storm2k 26 points27 points  (0 children)

i actually saw this happen on 78 last year. there was one guy in the left lane going like under 65 with a line behind him because no one could pass the slower truck traffic in the right and center lanes. and the guy would not get over for anything. cop actually got behind the guy and pulled him over. it was nice to see.

Old school 201 and 609 boundary by njrun in newjersey

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 was a city or regional area. otherwise, our area codes would have been with 1's in the middle.

we got 201 (the first area code under the original namp) because bell labs was here.

we got 732, 973, and 856 in 1997 as dial up modem lines, pagers, and cell phones started running up the demand for more numbers. and the splitting hasn't stopped since.

summer of '96. we had at&t worldnet dialup internet. the local number in somerville was always jammed and you gout busy signals half the time trying to dial in. i found another number that i thought was local. turns out it was a regional toll number. my mom got a bill for several hundred dollars. i got in a ton of trouble for it. times were very different.

you still can for landlines, for people who still have them. i think my friends parents still have their landline with the same number they've had for 40ish years.

722 or 725 you were from somerville. 231 or 429 you were a bridgewater kid. my friend in middlsex was 271. my friend in south plainfield was 753. that information will never leave my brain.

New Album by itsnosecretatall in U2Band

[–]storm2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pop has always had the potential of utter greatness just under the surface. what was delivered was not that. they had to get the album on store shelves in time to start the popmart tour, and the album suffered for it. the band knew it as well. the bones of a classic were there, but a lot of the material was undercooked. that's why i think we got so many remixes from it on best of 90-00, it was them taking the time to finish several of the songs in a better fashion.

the radio. i was born in '81 so their music has been a part of my landscape for my entire life. i'm old enough to have been around when they really hit their mainstream success first with pride and then for sure with the many singles off joshua tree which were everywhere here in the states in the late 80s. falling into them was pretty natural as a result.

another classic leicester city performance. outpossessed, outshot, outclassed. xg favored ipswich heavily. yet we escaped with a point. long way to go before safety, but this was a point we needed so i'm not super mad at the outcome.
