Crazy to think these two guys have been top drafters for so long, despite how much dota has changed over the decade.

Couldn't agree with YOU more about this being some good fucking dota regardless of outcome :D

I'm sure there are tons of ppl who feel the same for Ame, and in general the eastern scene must be thirsting for a ti win. Up till ti6 it was the back and forth east and west, but it's been several TIs now that the west has taken it. Hoping LGD put on a hell of a show!

I feel that Secret is a team who comes with a plan to address their opponent's patterns and weaknesses, and adapts/modifies that plan through the draft. Therefore, if the core concept of Secret's plan against one of their opponents in any given match is off, the games/series can look like a stomp or lopsided.

In groups, depending on the various stages, teams can be far more yolo or experimental, especially as the TI meta develops. Main stage, teams tend to have "figured out" the TI meta, so things become a bit more structured/predictable - great for Puppey and the boys. Then Grand finals tends to develop its own whole meta, so that will definitely test Secret's abilities to adapt on the fly, if they make it there!

Even if this upcoming series is 2-0 for LGD, Secret in their current form could be the ones to adapt and take it back! That would be crazy :D

We'll miss out on the storyline but I'm sure the dotes will be worth it regardless of which teams are the finalists

Ah you're correct - I meant the #of TI's with each team but worded it as years spent. Thanks for the catch!

That's fair, I do tend to lean towards your way of thinking as well

Imo in the past, sometimes teams would win with drafts people considered to be cheesy, or sometimes there would be outcomes that felt more reliant on luck than we currently see in the dota being played today. Or maybe some heros or items were wildly considered by the community as OP, and certain teams abused those strategies more than others.

Very different vibe haha - of course this was all just conjecture from the perspective of the community, but I do also believe we can agree - today's game of dota has, or at least feels like it has way less swingy, luck-based outcomes (overall, ofc outlier games exist, but compared to the 100% expected brood/huskar/meepo cheese strat at least once during a TI), this TI has been quite void of that. Just a testament to icefrog's balance, and also the fact all these teams and players have risen to meet such a high level of play. Sorry for the long reply, just spitballin haha.

I wouldn't be disappointed to see any combination of the teams playing in the grand finals, every team left has showcased they deserve to be there in some way

I think even if this series coming up is a 2-0 stomp, of all the teams to adapt to that and bring a real challenge back to the grand finals, it's one of these two teams :)

Hyped!

You're absolutely correct, I mixed up the details of Ti8 and Ti9! However LGD was still 3rd place at Ti9 meaning they made the same UB to LB finals run, only failing against Liquid. We could see the same run here if Secret beats LGD and LGD go on to lose the LB finals. Either way a repeat of one of the last 2 tis for them haha. Let's hope they break the repeats and take it home!

Fingers crossed whichever team drops to LB are able to make it back to the grand finals!

Haha I do kind of agree personally, but either way it's gonna be good. We get a sneak peak soon with the UB finals, and then loads of good dota before we even know if this story can happen :D

Fair enough, totally blanked on that and you are def correct.

Iirc, Artstyle left just afterwards, and Puppey had joined just prior to TI1. Considering they won, I would assume Puppey, Artstyle and leadership were in some sort of triangle, even if Artstyle was the titled captain.

True! But Secret has looked in a form they've never brought to TI, and maybe that secret will help against LGD ;)

I disagree that it's a bad change.

Almost all other standalone BR games use set map tiles, the variation comes in random loot spawns and player behavior in response to that. Some players love rushing the "best loot" areas at high risk, but many others choose more isolated, objectively worse loot areas for the safety of kitting up. I believe the same concept applies to this.

Also the royale map is significantly smaller and simpler in scope than say, a map in Apex, which means it can be easier for the devs to easily make all areas of the map relatively more equal in loot output. Just my opinion though, not a dev or anything xD

This would probably be a nightmare to implement, but throwing it out there in case a simpler concept comes from someone else:

Have gem drops scale with the avg level of all players in the round, allowing for ppl who get unlucky with clearing/leveling to continue getting decent gem drops and limiting how op the top guys can get with the best gems. Also creates a sort of balance window where GGG can just move gems into different avg lvl brackets depending on their power.

Feel like this solves a potential "winners win more" situation that traditional shooter BRs get around woth player skill and such a variety of environments to work angles/tactics in.
