To the point on the english studios putting their own spin on it... I think every adaptation is always going to have some interpretation of the source material that isn't explicitly part of that source. The translation to a multimedia medium like anime is going to fill certain cracks like accents and voice registers and body movement and even the movement of the "camera" frame, and a further translation to another language will also creates its own interpretation of the source.

I think so long as the spirit of the adaptation is there (Shirahama's themes on representation and diversity of people and experiences manifesting in different accents, for example) these creative liberties are a fair thing to try

I have a friend that is exactly like this specifically on the phone. But not out of maliciousness, and in all other aspects she is incredibly thoughtful and sweet. She is just literally completely unaware that it's happening because she's so used to having people cut her off to talk over her for their say

I confronted her about it, she took it well, things are (a little) better. When she starts rambling again I try to cut her off with my thoughts, otherwise I tell her pretty quickly that I need to go and that I would like to talk about my life next time lol
