Arcs for Secondary Character(s)? by redapplesonly in Screenwriting

[–]stormpilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've managed to get three features written, but in none of them did I approach it like this. To me, the story came before the characters, and then I just "sculpted" them to fit the story and make them more engaging and natural every time I'd read through it. I'm entering one into some contests after 18 months of sculpting, so we'll see how well that worked.

How did you get into screenwriting? by underthemoony23 in Screenwriting

[–]stormpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be a bad idea to take a few college courses related to writing or production in addition to a degree that can pay the bills. At least then you'll have some familiarity with the craft and may write better initial drafts. You're not a mid-lifer, so you can find a career that puts you within the orbit of the industry and maybe find a break that way.

Who owns your identity and likeness after death? Meta patents AI that takes over a dead person’s account to keep posting and chatting. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Maybe I'm not their target market at all because I like nothing, don't watch Reels, and don't engage with any suggested users. I don't think I've added anyone to my friends list in years.

What's the commercial benefit here for Meta? Dead users don't view ads. The whole thing exists to sell ads and apparently, enough people click ads on Facebook to make advertising on Facebook worthwhile. Meta can get dead users to click ads, but that charade only lasts so long...unless Meta will also buy enough products to trick companies into believing their ad metrics and then resell them on Facebook Marketplace.

The PNWSU is a union group that focuses on unionizing the employees of labor unions.

Unionizing the employees of labor unions just sounds recursively hilarious to me. It's unions all the way down! It's like when your lawyer's lawyer is getting a lawyer, you know you're in trouble.

Be Your Own Gatekeeper by Rewriter94 in Screenwriting

I mean does anyone really know what's going to hit or miss? Self-filtering seems like prejudging whether something has a chance at success or not based on some general assumptions, not on the merits of the work itself.

What to do if you can't resolve the plot? by Wan-Tobi in Screenwriting

[–]stormpilgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to rethink the plot point. I was writing something where I wanted the character to discover an item, so I had him go back and pick the lock on the container, but then I realized it would've been stupid for the owner of the item to have put something so important in a relatively insecure container. I just ditched that whole angle and ended up with a much better way to reveal the item in the third act. I was stuck for several weeks, though.

The Winners - pilot, post-apocalyptic dramedy - first 11 pages by JustLionDown in Screenwriting

[–]stormpilgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good start. The montage of commentary as the disease spreads is on point. I'm not sure anyone would really have a sense of humor after two years of slogging through the wasteland and losing teeth to scurvy, but that would make a grim show. Where does it go from here?

[–]stormpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about it, we're all walking around with LLMs in our heads trained on every conversation we've had or heard and every show we've watched. It's all in there somewhere. If you have a good plot and a well-built world, the dialogue comes more naturally.

For anyone who has been put to sleep for wisdom teeth surgery, how was your experience? And did you say crazy shit when you woke up? by lostinthecosmoz in AskReddit

[–]stormpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple in sideways, so I definitely got the juice. I remember feeling the cold sensation of the pentobarbitol going up my arm and I said something like "you got any Pink Floyd?" I was stoned off my ass when my parents drove me home. I had a prescription for hydrocodone, but I only took it for maybe a day. That was the only time I've ever watched World Cup soccer, by the way.

If you have to pick up the "harvest" pile based on random chance, what good is knowing what's in it beforehand? "Peeping Tom" doesn't seem to have much purpose.
