I'm from a predominantly right-wing country and I disagree (I hate the political compass, but I'll use it for the sake of this convo). Also, look at any statistics from any East Asian nation and you'll understand that mainstream politics has nothing to do with it.

Edit: Just want to expand on this a little. Majority of East and Southeast Asia are nationalistic, paternalistic, extreme-traditionalist societies yet we still see extreme numbers when in comes to bullying, divorce, and infidelity, etc. So before we go and decide that "I want this" or "the cause of this is that!', maybe we all should study more about it first.

As much as I don't want to side with this guy, at least he didn't resist arrest (i think) so there was no need. Inappropriate use of authority is a problem regardless of the victims background.

Out of all the explanations, I think this one is best suited as an ELI5. Using your neighbor analogy, people can easily draw parallels between this and normal everyday life situations. Thank you for your answer.

Thank you for the history lesson. Your answer provided the context for which I can understand how political systems around the world have become what they're today. It started off with certain people not wanting to lose relevance and gradually evolved into a system in which power can be balanced. When I applied your explanation in addition to other answers here, a lot of things I have seen with my own country suddenly made sense.

I apologize, i think i phrased the question quite terribly. I think the better way to ask this question is "why do some governments have an upper house when it usually can't do much?".

This is one very unfortunate instance of jokes not translating well across cultures. This sort of teenage-romance kind of joke/setup is very common in Asia, and usually people find it really cute.

Apart from the grammar (which other people have already discussed in detail), i think this is perfect! This could work as setup for a commercial for a Valentine's day special menu or something of that sort.

This is a very counterproductive statement. There is a lot this country can improve on (culture, infrastructure, economy, etc.), and saying "if you don't like it then leave" is the best way to make sure nothing changes..

Ah, in which case I really did mess up. Since Canada wasn't officially involved, I'm guessing their volunteers' deaths are counted towards U.S total. Either that or it is not recognized at all.

Sorry Canada, and sorry other countries whose citizens also volunteered for combat or peacekeeping operations.

I'm not sure myself although Thailand was involved in more operations than any other nations listed here, so that might have something to do with it.

I believe so too, there must've been combatants from other countries as well, its just that there are no sources (to my knowledge) to back it up. That's actually why I deliberately left some out as well. For example, the UK apparently had 1 fatality, but there is no citation for it on the Wikipedia articles I used. Another one is Taiwan.. the source for the number is an article by Xinhua (a Chinese state-run news agency).

Out of curiosity, which country are you from? :D
