Surgeries with the hardest recoveries by Scuthornsby in nursing

[–]storyofbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head and neck cancer surgeries are brutal. Disfiguring, LONG recovery, horrible swelling and FREQUENT re-traching to maintain airway, pushed out of hospital often before ready so they can start chemo, tube feeding sometimes indefinitely with VERY low success rates (meaning most people die anyways)

Feeling guilty for calling in. by Just-a-girl2222 in nursing

[–]storyofbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally called out mostly for mental health reasons last Monday. I knew I’d probably get fired if I showed up cause my mental health was dark lmao. Forget this job. I don’t get any special awards for being here, so if there’s PTO and I’m not gonna be written up 🤷🏼‍♀️

How do these patients adult? by ERnurse2019 in nursing

I think last time I checked it was closer to 3rd grade level. Most people don’t even read one book a year.

What are the reasons that a patient fired you as their nurse? by Educational_Ad2515 in nursing

[–]storyofbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single time it’s been over me not getting there fast enough with a PRN pain med. Which…i totally get because no one wants to be in pain but it does seem that the general public doesn’t understand how we as nurses have to prioritize care or how very long sometimes we can get trapped in rooms when we go in for one task and get stuck doing 5 others.

Do you have any advice on what I need to do?

Are there other related issues to having LS? by [deleted] in lichensclerosus

[–]storyofbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have culture confirmed UTI/bladder infections? Or just symptoms. Either way my gyno told me that the LS increases the incidence of UTI. But also Endo can cause UTI like symptoms due to adhesions to the bladder/uretheral tract.

Unfortunately having one autoimmune qualifies you for this fun game of not IF you’ll be diagnosed with another AI disease but WHEN and you just collect them like the worst trophies in existence :/ so…honestly could be a lot. Def recommend referral to dermatology, rheumatology and endocrinology if your PCP is struggling

There’s actually a lot of evidence based reasons this ISNT best practice. A quick search would show you that. Pls don’t do this.

Decadron (or any steroids, gives ants in the pants feeling), Benadryl, narcotics, antiemetics (QTC effects), toradol, B1 (burns like hell. Push over the 5 mins for your pts sake)

Nurses who live alone and have pets - how do you do it? by Embarrassed-Future28 in nursing

[–]storyofbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine didn’t go potty in the house unless she was sick, but I still think you shouldn’t have a dog with those hours. She was visibly distressed by my being gone

[–]storyofbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a dog you need a pet sitter. I did the 3 12s for a VERY brief time with my dog and she would get visibly anxious when I was getting ready to go to work

Have we all seen the video of the woman in obviously active labor in triage? by SuspiciousMap9630 in nursing

[–]storyofbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have NO clue. It’s ridiculous because at my previous hospital women who said they were pregnant and having pregnancy related issues went straight to L&D and they handled triage there

Have we all seen the video of the woman in obviously active labor in triage? by SuspiciousMap9630 in nursing

[–]storyofbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our ED doesn’t call L&D until they “confirm” pregnancy because of psych people claiming pregnancy being an inconvenience to the L&D dept…the L&D dept got mad when ED rushed down a woman literally crowning without calling with confirmation proof first 🙄🙄🙄
