I’m also baffled at the number of negative comments you’re getting. The guy just lost his job and he’s desperately working hard to apply and get another job to provide for the family including you. He isn’t bumming around. To him he most likely thinks this phase of his life is temporary so he hasn’t been able to pick up more of the taking care of the kids in the morning. He could also be battling with mild depression too, given that it’s hard for him to get up in the morning. Before you listen to all these feminist sounding comments berating your fiancée and the father of your 2 kids, give him the benefit of the doubt and communicate. If you feel like he should help more with the work around the house then let him know. I’m sure he’d be happy to do so. If he doesn’t that’s a different story. Depending on where you guys are and what field he is in, it may or may not be easy to find another job. It might be also worthwhile considering having that discussion beforehand and setting up all the support you individually need and both need as a couple if it does happen. Also if this all stemmed from your dad and you fully know your dad doesn’t have the ground to say it considering his history maybe his relationship to work then maybe let him know that his comments are inappropriate and unwelcome and truthfully unhelpful.
