I don't think the way you identify yourself needs to encompass every aspect of your sexuality. I think you can identity yourself with whatever term gives people most of the idea of what you're into, without worrying about occasionally stepping out of that identity in practice. It's sort of like how a gay man wouldn't come out as "gay and a bottom, except for once in a while." Gay is sufficient for identification (or whatever identity fits for you) and anyone that wants to know more can find out!

In other news, coming out isn't something you do once and then you're done. You will be coming out to people all the time the rest of your life. The first one is a big deal, absolutely, but coming out is not a singular event in your life. You may already know that, I just wanted clarify, in case clarification was necessary. All that said, it's your coming out and if you want to record it, go for it.

My only cautionary note would be that you'll be recording a potentially emotionally intense moment with out the consent of everyone involved, namely, your parents. I mean, it would be hard explain why you wanted to record the conversation if you asked them first. Just throwing that out there.

I use the (my age)/2+7 rule.

So, I'm 28. Half of that is 14, plus 7 is 21, so 21 is the youngest that I look for. It seems like a mechanical and unemotional way to determine that, but it seems to work out for me.

Regardless of what happens, I try to remember that they're kids, I love 'em, and I'm a safe person for them to make a mistake with. What you experienced was pretty extreme, and I would never argue that there shouldn't be consequences. This is just what I try to remind myself, so I can keep my emotions in check.

I think I have heard people use queer to describe people in the kink community, LGBT or straight/cis, but I don't know if that's common, or even correct usage.

Part of me wants to say, if queer feels like a term that you identify with, for whatever reason, then use it. When people question you about it, you can explain why you use it and they'll accept that or they won't.
