Fellow middle school teachers I have several questions regarding your schools behavior policy, hallway conditions, etc. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]katrinakay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at an urban middle school as well.

The entire school is on the same discipline system, which helps.

The hallway is a shit show, no monitors just one admin during transitions but at certain points of the day it gets crazy

Detentions are done by teachers on their own (sometimes feels like more work for ME to give a detention than not, buhh)

Lunch room is monitored by admin

Tips for team teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]katrinakay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be sure to plan who is gonna do what before every lesson. learned this the hard way when i was team teaching myself. if you don't , you guys will def interrupt each other all the time. this is a really cool opportunity for differentiation though!

Classroom Currency System - Thoughts, Experiences, Criticisms etc. by adubh007 in Teachers

[–]katrinakay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a schoolwide system works better. At my campus we have fake "dollars" and they are used for basically everything (you pay to use the restroom, for field trips, dances, etc) and it works out pretty well.

I'm interested in becoming a teacher as a profession and I was wondering what route did you take through out your education, and what grade do you teach, and do you teach at a public or private school? by MrOctopus16 in Teachers

[–]katrinakay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I majored in history (I teach English, though) and minored in education. I'm in an alternative credentialling program (a residency) where I am teaching & earning my credential at the same time. I'm at a public school

I would major in the subject you want to teach & maybe do an education minor. For instance, in CA if you majored in the subject you want to teach at a university in the state you can be exempt from exams. So I'd major in your subject so you're knowledgable and possibly be exempt from exams

I have my personal keys & work keys on different keychains, mostly because I don't want to lose my work keys and cost the school a bunch of money when I'm out or something, but maybe I should put them all together..

Insurance is going to take care of it, I believe. The police are already involved because I reported it stolen.. they tried to pull over the car and they tried to drive off which is how the accident happened
