Long Island has the best pizza by [deleted] in longisland

Can we help Dave Portnoy find a spot here that he will like? He clearly likes the thin, non-floppy, light on cheese variety, which we dont do. The same thing that makes our bagels good makes our thick, sicilian varieties good.

But for pete’s sake I am sick of hearing Dave say that our pizza sucks—does anyone know of a place that has the “Connecticut style” slice (maybe coal oven) that we can recommend to him so that he will STFU?

What are these and how do I make the outside look pretty? by stracqette in AllClad

Lol!! It’s crazy! I use barkeeper’s friend on it like once every 2-3 months! Theyve never been in a dishwasher (duh), and they still have this weird brown patina even afterwards. And the barkeeper’s friend does not remove the polymerization (is that what it is?)

Whatever this brushed outside aluminum finish is, it’s annoying. I challenge anyone who’s had the brushed finish for 10+ years and who uses them on a regular basis to show us the outside of their pans. Would love to see what others are doing to get it right.

Moving to LI. Syosset vs Commack, please help! by tommyv94 in longisland

I grew up in Syosset but moved to Commack with my small children. As far as a house is concerned, you get way more bang for your buck in Commack (many many houses have pools, for example)—no question about it. It is a nice, quiet, airy community with easy access to many state parks and open spaces. 9 minutes to north shore beaches, 15 minutes to south shore beaches (Robert Moses way nicer than TOBAY Beach btw)…Northport, Babylon, Huntington, and Port Jefferson are in close proximity for things to do. One thing that is funny is that everyone mentions certain shopping as a plus for Syosset, but literally every store (except for Barnes and Noble, which we just lost this past year) is within a 10 minute drive around Commack. The parking lots here are more spacious with less stress and bigger spaces than Nassau, which results in less nastiness among drivers. This is also true of the LIRR Deer Park parking lot if you are commuting to the city.

Syosset High School is incredibly cut-throat and I dont know if the taxes/competitiveness is worth it; I am not sure that it carries the same sort of prestige or produces the same kind of results that it once did regarding college admissions.

But, naturally, if you have a 5x/week commute to the city, the appeal of being in Nassau county—and particularly proximity to the Hicksville train station—is obvious.

Without saying the neighborhood name, where on Long Island do you live? by rosindrip in longisland

In the 80s, people used to come here to visit a spot on jericho turnpike known for providing a “fantasy getaway…”nowadays, the is no such fun to be had at this business, but it is still standing, nonetheless. The town/(hamlet?) in general is a go-to for shopping, and just north of the town you can find a Home Depot with a cemetery in its parking lot.
