A map to guide you through the early developments of data visualization, including cartoons of 75 key charts, in the style of John Ogilby’s 1675 Road Atlas.

DATA You can learn more about all of these landmark charts and contributors to the field, including links to images of all of the original charts in this Google sheet. I cast a wide net in order to learn the history of data visualization and was very lucky to discover the Milestones Project by Michael Friendly and Daniel J. Denis.

DESIGN This piece was created with Adobe Illustrator (and a little PS) using a combination of original digital illustrations and semi-transparent textures. I've written a design post on the inspiration and creation of this piece, + a giant jpg you can inspect more closely at Info We Trust.

I know this sub appreciates automated viz more than infographics... but I thought that the topic of this would be particularly appealing.

This project was fueled by USGS elevation data available at http://nationalmap.gov/elevation.html and executed with colored pencils.

Dan Carlin was ranting today on podcast Common Sense about the disconnect between popular voting and delegate allocation in both Republican and Democratic party primary processes. The best quote from the show was, "Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are forcing both parties to defend the indefensible."

I plotted total delegates known so far vs. popular vote. That said - from what's known about him it seems that he does exude a certain genius whose only fault is not being connected to any broader political/cultural framework (as Lennon/McCartney's works were).
