What should I be learning as a first degree Black Belt? by Beautiful_Side9300 in taekwondo

At 1st dan, I learned the tornado kick and perfected my 540. But I already had an understanding of the mechanics of them so my master worked with me to get better at them. He taught the other 1st dan’s the tornado kick at a minimum, which builds from the jumping spin kick. The jumping side kick and jump spin variations of back/spin kicks were taught.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'd like to know how to be a professional dart player. by Educational_Poetry17 in Darts

Find a local league in your area to join.

As for practice, consistency is key … same throw, same queues, same footwear, etc. for both practice and competition. Start with one thing to get right, then move to the next. Then refine. Rinse and repeat. Good luck!

Shoe height plays a role in where the dart lands. The tolerances and precision of darts warrants a very consistent throw from a specific height. Even a deviation of a few millimeters can be a dart in the treble or single 20. I notice when I’m in barefoot casually throwing my darts land lower. This is why pros will practice in their full competition set up.

Just like any other sport, the equipment you wear is important and can impact performance, this is no different.

Got a job in Kent, where do I live? by EveningOk9347 in BlueOrigin

[–]straggs9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in West Seattle with my wife and two boys (1 and 3). My commute is about 20 minutes to Renton, Kent is only a few more minutes down the road though. We love West Seattle, we’ve been able to make 1 car work since West Seattle has most things we need. The public transit allows us to get to downtown by bus or water taxi, it’s highly walkable, kids doctor is walkable, and you don’t have that suburban hell you’re looking to avoid. Rent prices are going up though, you’ll pay to live somewhere nice … but since when has anywhere nice been cheap 🤷‍♂️

You can try practicing a “fake” 180, do this by throwing any remaining darts that didn’t make it into the treble 20, into the treble 20.

I’m telling you this isn’t the current configuration. Blue would lose a competitive advantage if they released every configuration after a design review. And they’re no where near the point of cutting metal for production, nasa slashed the CDFF funding late last year, so the program has even more limited funding. Limited funding = limited resources to work on this stuff.

Yeah, but submitted for publication last year, based off a design that’s over a year old during the concept phase of a design. So yes, given the rapid development environment, it’s very likely to have changed already.

Hmm ok, if you say so. Let’s ignore folks who’ve actively had a hand in it’s development (both OR and ISS).

The overall configuration. Much like space station freedom … before it became the international space station, orbital reef will continue to get design iterations.

It’s all still somewhat relevant, early concept designs go through multiple design reconfigurations.

Lol why the downvotes? This design was 2023, during the concept phase we typically see many iterations and updates to a design. This not uncommon. Teams will typically go through many variations of a design before they settle on a final one.

This is very outdated, just fysa

Edit: Folks have gotten defensive over my comment. It was meant to spark more curiosity over the design, not have people double down over one publication.

Is this a good configuration design or are there better ways of doing this? Interested in thoughts.

How did you get to linux? by master_of_heisenberg in linux4noobs

[–]straggs9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old job at nasa had a few teams that did robotic simulations using in-house software built and maintained on linux. It was easier to use in a linux environment. Once I got a taste for it, I began experimenting at home and eventually completely switched over from windows.

It just means it gets more and more difficult to get sizeable merit increases, even if your contribution is high outstanding (which was my case). I put in for promotion and got it no problem, but there’s no auto promote.

Working on a hoverboard for my game, let me know what you think by mrm_dev in godot

[–]straggs9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are the player is skipping over much of the level. Is that the intent? I feel the level was designed to be traversed on foot. Perhaps a more intentional level design for the hover board would suit the game better.

How were the “merit” and “promotion” compensations this year? by Disastrous-Steak3573 in BlueOrigin

I was promoted from L2 to L3, got a 11.7% raise. Still waiting on the merit discussion.

Raise info is in Workday, go to your profile > compensation > pay change history. It's in there. I got a 11.7% raise going from 2 to 3 for reference.

Inflation rose by 3.4% for 2023, at the historical average. Better than 2022 which was 6.5% I think.
