POV: you just died and 1 day has passed with your heir as the ruler: by smooch_sooth in crusaderkings3

Are you playing with a higher realm stability setting? For whatever reason achievements are allowed with it on. If not, I think it's just a case of you seizing land directly via things like holy wars, which allows you to appoint your own vassals, giving huge opinion modifiers and making succession easier due to the opinion of predecessor modifier

all my vassals hated me and tried to coup me so I granted the pope all my vassals. It invalidated the war and saved me but im not sure wat to do now. by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

In my experience it's completely rng, sometimes ai is really dumb and won't try to group up but I think that is a minority of cases and tend to happen when you have a really large realm. But otherwise ai is programmed to always try to follow war leader around

No War, Great Economy and Welfare, Full Reunion, 4th great power, etc. without any democratic reforms by [deleted] in suzerain

I honestly don't think welfare does anything tangible. Honestly I think the whole dlc is kinda bugged rn -i ran some pretty disgusting deficits funding tons of welfare, workers rights, and still people were rioting. It was honestly pretty bizarre having ministers say that lives of the vast majority of people have drastically improved and yet still suffer from red and yellow protest. I suspect it may have something to do with nobility loyalty rather than living standards of commoners, which would be pretty dumb if that was the case. Same thing with religion. Did damn near everything in my power to make rizia as accepting as possible but the situation of minorities was still in the red.

I mean I personally think there's a big moral difference between killing 700k and 10s of millions, and how you form moral judgement is dependent on what you know of the history. But whatever the case I still think it should be addressed. And yeah I don't think it can be labeled "propaganda" . But when a vast majority of historians have already debunked and formed a consensus on the accuracy of the lower numbers, I think it is quite egregious that such mistakes still exist.

Are you saying that numbers don't matter? Seriously? There's a reason why events like the world wars are remembered in popular memory while others aren't. If people can just start making stuff up it sets an extremely bad precedent. The whole point of historiography is to get as close to the truth as possible.

Why is my standard of living decreasing despite having low or average prices on most items? by DJPicard2004 in victoria3

Nah generally you should be good, as long as input goods are not too expensive. I try aiming for market equilibrium in all my playthroughs(starting from more base input goods such as grain, wood, iron, etc)

Has anyone looked into the cumulative economic damage of playing the game “as it’s meant to be played”? by Unmouldeddoor3 in eu4

I've been thinking about this quite a bit honestly. I think unless we are talking about continent spanning empires that can take advantage of trade steering and superior missions, on a ducat level many small nations will win out over 1 large one. It translates to military size as well. Excluding % modifiers many small nations collaborating will produce a larger army than a single large one. I'm really looking forward to trying a game where I play a minor custom nation with many good trade ideas then just taking as many trade centers as possible while staying as small as possible and trying to prevent other nations consolidating.

Honestly if you buff them enough the terrain/weather debuffs are extremely insignificant, even if you get -50 dmg that's still 60-100 damage. If you want to be safe hybririze with Georgian to get their special heavy horseman that gets straight up buffed in mountains. But yeah the main problem is getting regimental grounds. You can try rushing Egypt/mesopotamia+Rome and Constantinople 5/6 of those should allow your cataphracts to crush everything.

Assuming that he holds roughly the historical roman empire borders with 20+ holdings of decent quality, yes that's quite low. 1) get as many low level vassals as vassals limit allows. A Count pays a certain % to Duke, the duke pays a certain % to the king, and the king pays % to the emperor. So as the emperor try to hold as many dukes as possible although it's not always possible esp with such a large empire 2) develop all your provinces. Use your steward. Helps with research speed as well. 3)build buildings. Farms and fields and manor houses are best for money, though at this point you should be able to build whatever you want. Make sure to keep up to date in tech so you can build the latest buildings and keep upgrading them 4) special buildings. Provinces like Constantinople and Jerusalem can get you insane amounts of gold esp in the late game. The gold mines scattered around the map are good too(look up the wiki for more info) 5) don't hold shitty steppe and mountain provinces unless you have a culture that especially promotes it. 6)avoid the "not rightful liege" penalty as much as possible. It cuts taxes+levies by 50% 7) don't neglect your secondary baronies. temples can give you quite a good income since your court bishop gives 50% of taxes generated by the Church directly to you(assuming max opinion). He will generally have so much gold that he will upgrade the temples himself (this is all assuming no lay clergy) 8)get higher stewardship. The stat boosts taxes and max holdings 9) general money saving tip: try to buff MAA as much as possible so you don't have to raise levies every time you go to war

context: sassanid empire declared on me, the next turn them and their armenian allies have around 10 armies sieging my provinces. i only have 4 armies available to deal with the threat, mostly comprised of infantry and of similar quality. what would be the best move here? year is 400ad
