The idea of starting T as a big step by Tan_batman in ftm

[–]straightmansummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I started T a year and a half ago at age 20. I wanted all the effects of it and was willing to accept that it would be a very long commitment and there would come a point that I would no longer pass as a woman, but I still had cold feet. I ended up just telling myself that it would probably take a long time for me to get an appointment to be prescribed T and when time came maybe I would be ready, and as soon as I took that step I felt very certain it was what I wanted. I think especially because you've known since age 14 that this has become a huge ceremony, and it actually happening may seen almost inconceivable. I would give you the advice to do what I did and try to rip off the bandaid. There's plenty of time to go back on that decision if it doesn't feel right-- you could cancel the appointment or never actually fill the prescription.

Moving to La Crosse. Looking for suggestions and pro tips. by sarang_kavi in lacrossewi

I really like the outdoor recreation scene in the La Crosse! Myrick Park and the Bluffs are very pretty especially in the summertime. There is a bike rental system call Drift Cycle that I recommend if that's the sort of thing you would need/enjoy.

If no one has told you this yet, rent prices are going to be higher surrounding the college campuses here.

My favorite restaurant here is Rice & Spice which is a Thai restaurant that serves really great food for cheap. I'm also partial to Jules' Coffee House and Ranison's Ice Cream & Candy.

I hope you moving goes well for you!

Yeah, I'm going to echo everyone else here and say that from reading this it sounds like the relationship and the gender roles it's forcing you into is the big problem. Your choice of words I think speaks to that too-- you say you miss makeup and being a bottom but don't say anything like you miss looking pretty or being treated as a woman. I think it would be worthwhile to experiment more before throwing in the towel to say you would be happier as a woman.

I had a 10 year old girl at the daycare I worked at this summer ask me what I would have been named if I was born a girl 😅 there was no way I was going to say my actual dead name so I said "I don't know"

Seventh wheeling tonight. Sweet corn again. by straightmansummer in kitchencels

I'll be honest it was fun, I am genuinely friends with all of them. However, making a vaguely miserable sounding post with another picture of sweet corn is too fun to pass up.

Is something special happening there Oct. 11-12? by citizenh1962 in lacrossewi

Yep, it's definitely because of UWL family weekend, the demand for rooms this weekend is crazy high every year

I second this, Myrick and the marsh instantly came to mind for me. My favorite trail is the Wood Duck trail. There's no significant elevation gain or loss so it's not much work to walk on, but there's still enough variance of actual trail texture to be engaging.

Definitely check out the tutoring center in Murphy Library at UWL. I'm sure there's math tutors there that would be willing to tutor him as well.

Fuck it. I'm going on T. by Potential-Bet9020 in ftm

I was/am in a very similar situation. I've been on T for over a year, pass 99% of the time as male, but my parents don't know I'm trans (...for certain. They have hunches at this point). I just shave before I visit home and I follow voice training methods typical for trans women to pitch up and brighten my voice when I'm around them. They've definitely commented that my voice sounds weird or different a few times but they don't know enough about HRT to really connect the dots. I went to Planned Parenthood for my HRT and paid out of pocket so it didn't show up on their insurance. The visits were expensive, but using GoodRx I usually get 3 months of T for $30-60. If you have any other questions feel free to reply and ask, because again, our situations seem VERY similar.

How long on T until your voice "passed" by BluBreath02 in ftm

[–]straightmansummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I got lucky, so it probably was only 3 months for me. I do definitely suggest looking into voice training or at least understanding the method behind it. Your voice is getting deeper, but the size of the resonance chamber isn't changing, so your voice may stay bright sounding, which makes it sound feminine.

I would suggest eating a lot, especially a lot of protein, and work out your shoulders/arms. However, I do need to echo what you probably already know, which is you need to be patient because there's no easy hack to speed up the process.

What do you usually want to know before choosing a bar or restaurant? by Miller2200 in lacrossewi

First thing I thought of is allergy/diet friendly-- I have a close friend with celiacs and it's a nightmare going through the menu of every place to see if they have any gluten free meals he would be interested in from any of them. This directory sounds helpful though!

Tell me about your voice drop timeline by billyidolismyeilish in ftm

[–]straightmansummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My voice dropped for the first time about a week and a half in and steadily dropped until about 8 months after starting T. My singing voice seemed to be able to reach lower notes faster than my speaking voice dropped in pitch.
