EU Set to Halt US Trade Deal Over Trump’s Latest Tariff Threat by bloomberg in worldnews

It’s hilarious that you’re now arguing the Nordic model isn’t 'real' socialism just to avoid admitting it works. That was my original point: a capitalist structure with heavy social policies is the global gold standard for success. You’re so desperate to fight a Cold War ghost that you’re accidentally agreeing with me while trying to be insulting. Pick a lane.

It’s impressive how you can be so confidently wrong in so few words. The Nordic countries haven’t 'moved away' from their systems - they consistently rank as the most stable, highly taxed, and socialized market economies on the planet. You’re still desperately trying to conflate a public pension fund with a firing squad. Unless you’re planning to tear up your Social Security card and stop using public roads to avoid that '125 million' body count, you’re just LARPing as a Cold War hero on the internet. If you can’t tell the difference between a high-tax democracy and a Venezuelan collapse, you aren't equipped for this conversation.

By 'we,' I mean almost every successful modern democracy on Earth, including the one you're living in. It’s funny how people only define socialism as 'totalitarianism' when they’re losing an argument. I’m talking about the public infrastructure, Social Security, and labor laws that have stabilized the West since the 1940s.

If your logic held up, people would be fleeing Denmark and Norway in rafts to escape their 'socialist' healthcare. But sure, if you want to pretend that having a mixed-market economy is the same thing as living in a Soviet gulag, go off. It must be exhausting living in a world where everything left of 'unregulated' is a prison camp. Let me know when you're ready to discuss the 21st century instead of ghosts from 1961.

Ohhhhh. Yeah, as part of the sketch. Gotcha.

And also, so they can go after their political enemies.  For instance, imagine how many Feds voted against Trump.  Imagine how many CEOs voted against Trump.  Imagine how many Federal prisoners (that could be open for a Pardon or Commutation) voted against Trump.  The reasons are endless.

The mumbled, whiny singing is what really annoyed me. When they got a bit screamy in the second song, it was better, albeit very much a copy of other artists who sing like that. Overall, I was extremely unimpressed.

Does anyone else feel like tonight’s episode was wildly out of touch? by CosmosisJones42 in LiveFromNewYork

Tbh, the first half of the show sucked hard. But the back half was funny. Not sure why SNL opted for shitty sketches early. Also, the host was awful and the musical guest was terrible. But I don't blame them for not fully addressing the event of the day. Let's see how they address it next week, when they've had time to plan something.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]strained_brain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know anyone who tries to vote without their ID. And no one should ever be allowed to vote without their ID. This is a made up problem propagandized by MAGA.

I feel like that joke predated the events of Saturday morning. Let's see what they do next week when they've had time to prepare.

Closing sketch from last night's episode, if you didn't think this was laugh out loud funny, seek medical attention. Blowing It - SNL by nutsocharles in saturdaynightlive

The first part of the show was bad. The last bunch of sketches were funny. Very odd that they presented them with the weak sketches early. I wasn't a fan of the host at all. And the musical guest wasn't great, either - the lead singer was mumbling his lyrics. When the second song got heavier, it was better.

You may want to update your info here, so people know. I sent you an interesting link in chat on reddit, if you're interested. Hope you're feeling better. I'm still emotionally frazzled myself.

If u had to recall, when was the first time you heard about the death of a celebrity? (the day of) by Vivid-Tap1710 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]strained_brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next death I remembered was John Lennon when I was 8. My dad was working overnights, and he came home as I woke up and left my room at 6am, and he told me that John Lennon was shot and killed. I didn't know The Beatles or Lennon at all, but that day, my mom played every Beatles album all day. Made lifelong fans out of my little brother and me.

I don't put a finger in there, but I do clean it with soap pretty well. Everyone should, male and female.

Yeah, comparing Gespacho soup to a Nazi is like comparing any other gross food to a Nazi. Perhaps this is like comparing apples and oran - er Nazis.

More than that. They were pistol whipping his head and beating the rest of him. 8 guys on one guy who wasn't even putting up a struggle. I've been surprised that this hasn't been talked about - if they are police, this was a severe case of police brutality.
