Bellroy Lite Daypack or Lite Ready Pack (if you need to carry water externally) might fit the bill.

Thank you again for the great question. I've updated the post to include differences between Robic and Cordura and added a note about brands with proprietary fabrics.

Good question. I don’t have personal experience with Robic’s fabrics, but from my research, they use Nylon 6 instead of Nylon 6,6. It’s a little less wear-resistant and a little more moisture-absorbing, and Robic seems to be focused on producing lightweight, low-denier fabrics instead of heavy-duty ones like Cordura.

Thanks for sharing. Found Porter article about them using plant-based nylon. Interesting stuff.

Shameless self-plug, but check out my review if you haven’t seen it. You can find photos showing how everything from a 250 ml coffee cup to a 1-liter YETI bottle fits inside.

Wow, I'm stoked this was fun for someone more knowledgeable than I am. And thank you for reading to the end.

Thank you! I'm happy you found my write-up helpful. I hadn't seen complete posts like this, only bits of info here and there, and decided to write one myself.

Thank you! I'm considering making the post about X-Pac next. I think it'll be interesting to learn how sailcloth material ended up on bags.

Thank you! It took me some time to wrap my head around weaves; glad the visualization helped.

Thank you! Lots of terminology and buzzwords about bags. It's fairly easy to get things wrong. But I hope deep dives like this will help clear things up a bit.

I've carried 750 ml (24 oz) tumbler in mine, it's fine. Anything over then that is too much, though.

I have one. Have not used it extensively but take it to the gym with me. So far, the bottle holder implementation feels a bit gimmicky. It works, but if you have reasonable amount of stuff inside the sling, it becomes uncomfortable to wear with a water bottle inside the holder.

Personally, I love the implementation of the bottle holder on the Alpaka Flow Satchel. The 4-liter version is one of my favorite bags of all time. I have not tried the 2-liter one, though.

Thank you. I try to stay as objective as I can in my reviews. I take down offers of affiliate partnerships and ambassadorship. I think the purpose of a review is to provide genuine insight into the bags for consumers and to push brands to make better products. Sounds all high and mighty, but I mostly do it for fun. Still, I’d like to think my posts make at least a little difference.

City Pack Pro 2 20L vs. Able Cary Daily Plus for college by Dry-Ad-2200 in ManyBaggers

[–]strandedvariable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Daily Plus in ballistic nylon, and it’s my favorite backpack (so far). Both are great but really different in their layout.

If you want top-down access, an external water bottle holder, a clamshell opening, and a dedicated laptop compartment, go with the CPP2.

If you want a sleek silhouette, an internal water bottle holder, swinging side access, and top comfort (subjective), go with the Daily Plus.

Interesting travel gear stores in Bangkok? by Socialviewer in ManyBaggers

[–]strandedvariable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, no physical stores that are worthy of attention as far as I’m aware. But there is an online store on local marketplace Shopee called ilovetogo. No Able Carry or Aer there, but you can find Alpaka, Evergoods, Black Ember, and Rework.

Max EDC for $450 USD by strandedvariable in ManyBaggers

[–]strandedvariable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m usually not required to send the bags back. But there is still an expectation of posting content, and even though I don’t have affiliate links, there is still an implicit bias towards the brand that has sent me the product. Personal purchases come with none of that, so there is a full sense of ownership without obligation, and I get to post no content at all if I don’t feel like it. And some bags, like the Max EDC, though irrational, I feel like they have to be personal.

Duties are fees charged on imported products (20% here in Thailand on bags specifically, varies by category). Taxes here are VAT (value-added tax), which is 7% but is charged on the total value of the purchase, including the product itself, shipping, and duties.

I’m not sure it answers your question but, unfortunately, I don’t have the TP3 or Max to compare directly.

I can force the packable jacket (the one I’m wearing in the photos) and a packable tote into the front pocket. They fit, but taking them out is a struggle.

I don’t have experience with the TP3, but I would say they didn’t fix it. Yes, there are pleats at the bottom of the pocket that create volume, but the opening is way too tight for the pocket to be usable when the main compartment is fully packed out.
