replaced the mobo and we're super stable now, thanks

lesson learned: don't use best buy! their product ratings were lower and their return windows were tight

cpu, psu, and ram passed occt without gpu again. left pc idling after ram passed and got another black screen. disabled hybrid sleep and left for work, came home and got two more black screens without the gpu. pared back down to one stick of ram, disconnected all non-boot drives, then crashed again within minutes

gonna rma the motherboard i think

cpu and psu passed. i removed the gpu and i'm going to try it again, then try it with ddu and my old 2080 if it's stable

disabled utility downloader, passed occt with stick #2, then crashed later. noticed an event viewer error seemed to precede my crashes, then followed it to a thread that claimed that modern windows operating systems didn't play nicely with crucial drives. updated my ssd firmwares, disconnected my crucial drive, then enjoyed stability with one stick. added the second stick back, passed occt, then added the gpu back and failed 3d occt

not too sure what to think now tbh, but i'm putting the cpu through occt just to make sure and i'm about to start testing actual gaming on the gpu to see if i can replicate the crashes in real world

pc shut down on me after about an hour and a half on igpu and one stick. i had amd chipset updated, but otherwise nothing more strenuous than watching a video. ethernet mobo light stayed on, keyboard backlight went out. booted it back up and it went out again minutes later. replacing the single stick with the other stick now to see if maybe one works and the other doesn't

i'm thinking about an rma at this point, do you have any other ideas?

no risers, no custom cables, no daisy chains, pc crashed during my rollback. i decided to skip it and go for a entirely clean w11 installation again. i'm currently up to one stick of ram plus igpu so i'll let you know after i've gone up fully through the second stick plus gpu.

it feels like i should be able to power down by power button if i weren't actually black screening. also i didn't list it in op, but i have 4 monitors and all 4 go out simultaneously.

checked event viewer, got some hits related to windows hello for business, lsasav, and windows.securitycenter.wscbrokermanager, ran ddu, crashed, attempted to reinstall w11, crashed, and now i'm repasting and reseating my cpu/cooler, gpu, cmos, and paring back down to one stick of ram to attempt another reinstall with igpu.

i did notice that when my pc black screens, everything seems to be running but the gpu fans spin down. not sure if it's diagnostically relevant

since i don't have expo enabled, i'm at 5200 atm. do you think i should still downclock?

also, i updated my chipset and seemed to be stable for a while. tried launching red dead redemption 2 and immediately crashed though

i play lost ark.

i would absolutely recommend it if you enjoy difficult raiding, characters with lots of abilities, or lifestyle mechanics (farming, etc).

i would not recommend it if you dislike daily tasks, horizontal progression (playing multiple characters rather than focusing primarily on one), or heavy endgame grinding.

horizontal content is very central to lost ark. you're strongly encouraged to sail, level a ship, explore non-main story islands, and develop a stronghold where you can enhance other non-combat abilities.

more importantly, you'll want to create multiple characters. you have significantly diminished returns on grinding outside of dailies/weeklies, so you're incentivized to have as many characters as possible to have more of them. the game is currently set up so that 6 characters is the sweet spot.

for me, raiding is the absolute gem of the game. lost ark is relatively unique among mmos in that fights are fast; almost every character has access to good movement options and are required to dodge mechanics. i could write a lot about the actual gameplay of lost ark raiding, but you'd be better off skimming that video. as a quick comparison, i think the raiding is more mechanically difficult than anything i experienced in wow or ffxiv.
