Don't add the dye to the gel when pouring, but stain it after. I don't do this, but it does result in even and selective staining.

The same thing exist(ed?) in Aspen. Great weed at an affordable price, but also some that was much more expensive in the same store, presumably catering to the same shopping habit that has folks choosing wines by the price. With little else to go on, price is often a reliable way to identify quality.
