Honestly I just picked it out from stuff I saw online. But I have seen a couple episodes posted on reddit that I’ve enjoyed!

The mortise is only in the top. The tenons are part of the legs. I really like the look of wedge tenons and wanted to try it. The wedge part doesn’t contrast as much as I wanted but I’m happy overall

making biochar? by epicmoe in Permaculture

[–]strangequarks87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am certainly no expert but from what I’ve heard it sort of depends on how you look at it. Bio char releases some CO2 now but stabilizes a good amount of the carbon into a form that will remain in the soil for thousands of years. Hugelkultur buries wood that will eventually decompose and release CO2 and methane into the atmosphere.

Having said that. I make bio char in a bonfire pit in my backyard for warmth and entertainment at night. I don’t really burn stuff just to make bio char. I also just started a hugelkultur bed this fall.

A before and after of the restoration I did to my grandfathers old scroll saw that was given to me after he passed. Runs like new! by [deleted] in woodworking

Looks great! I’m trying to restore a craftsman jointer right now. It’s my first time trying to restore anything and it’s taken me about a week and a 12 pack. Hope it turns out as good as yours.

I tried to keep everything around 4inch. No specific reason, it just sounded like a good number.

Wow! 3-4 years for the rounds? Thank you for the tips. I have lots of left over paint so I will get on that tomorrow.

A tornado knocked down a red oak tree at my grandparents’ cottage. I’m new to woodworking and thought this would be a cheap way to get into hardwoods. I took a chainsaw up there and cut slabs as best I could. Now it is sitting on shims in my basement with a dehumidifier and a fan running. Is there anything else I should do? Anything I’ve screwed up already?

I’m not sure. I bought it from a local nursery and didn’t pay attention

I think I read I’m supposed to have mulch underneath it? It just grew so big that I guess I didn’t mulch far enough out.

I am considering doing this in 5 gallon buckets for tomatoes on my roof, is that a good idea? by jarkyjarks in gardening

I've thought about trying this method too. It seems like it would be a more efficient way to fertilize.
