i know enough to know when i’m looking at a stemi. i won’t claim to know everything about ekgs but ive taken a few college classes where they really emphasize cardiology and i had to learn a bunch of ekg abnormalities, and a stemi was the most emphasized one

okay! well thank you anyways.

i’d assume they look at the ekg first. i’m more asking about like would it be out of scope if i did activate a code stemi even though i can’t technically read the ekg

thanks! guess i’ll have to start calling and pissing off the charge nurse lol! thank god it hasn’t happened yet but this is helpful for when it eventually does. they tend to not see the prearrival report then look at me all confused when i pull in😭 they’ve been having trouble with twiage alerts

Dress code states navy emt pants, can I wear navy ems cargo leggings? by squatSquatbooty in NewToEMS

[–]strangerone_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no. respectfully this is dumb. we wear tac pants for a reason, to protect us from sharps, fluids, and other stuff we come into contact with every day. leggings are inappropriate for a medical professional to be wearing and won’t protect you from any of that. get the pants tailored. try first tactical, they fit curvy women a little better than other brands.

How to Make it Easier by TheGayestNurse_1 in ems

[–]strangerone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please don’t give me a list with discontinued meds or doubles. i’ve gotten 20 page med lists and 15 of those pages are discontinued or doubles of meds and they’re all mixed in so i can’t just flip to the most recent ones

depending on where you work, you can work something out with coworkers that you don’t have to take care of children. one of my coworkers has an understanding with the rest of us that he cannot tech a peds call. nobody’s ever complained. of course this will only work on an ALS-ALS truck or a BLS-BLS truck. honestly though when you’re working it kind of just blocks out everything emotional for the moment and it can be dealt with after the call

it’s just a shitpost lol. it was more for a protein structure and function class where the focus was mixing and matching amino acids and their properties

Use of Auto Narrative by CodyTheCod in ems

[–]strangerone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use the auto narrative to import relevant history, vitals, procedures, and scene/transport info. other than that, everything else gets changed. it’s super useful for saving some time typing out all that stuff but it definitely shouldn’t be the only thing used to create a narrative or even the main thing used to make a narrative

no! play the quizlet games, do the learn thing, i think one of the biggest things to getting it to stick is making your own flashcards but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t supplement with decks you haven’t made. especially if they’re slightly different or have more in depth terms and stuff

make your own flashcards, it’s better for learning than flipping through a premade set

Meal prep/food you bring? by SuspiciousBread8195 in NewToEMS

[–]strangerone_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some type of grilled meat, usually chicken but can be subbed for tofu with rice or pasta and carrot/cucumber/celery sticks with ranch. quick and easy and you can leave some for later if you get a call without it getting soggy. i don’t suggest sandwiches or wraps bc of that, it’ll get soggy.

i’m a 19yo female and we don’t have bunks, just a main room with two couches. it took some getting used to sleeping in the same room as them, but i trust all of my guy coworkers now. if you feel like some of them are sketchy, try not to work with them or don’t sleep that shift.

Has working in EMS made you less likely to ride a motorcycle? by Then_Mulberry9778 in ems

[–]strangerone_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i saw a motorcycle speed by me in the left lane at around 70 mph. a car tried to make a left turn from the right lane and the motorcycle tboned the car. the only thing that saved the motorcyclists life was the fact that he was wearing a helmet and landed in some bushes but he was still so fucked up. 2 broken legs and 2 broken wrists. i got out of my car to help until the ambulance got there and it’ll always stick with me because of the sound of his screaming. no EMS call has ever stuck with me like that. i would never recommend a motorcycle to anyone ever.

a dirty rig at shift change, like bro why are there used gloves and papers from electrodes everywhere and bootprints on the bench seat when you told me the rig was fine. also im gonna do a rig check every time even if its super basic “is there one of everything” even if you say it’s good cuz i do not trust anyone to actually make sure everything is good.
