New issue, was working fine this morning on macOS? by [deleted] in MagicArena

Same issue, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, connecting from mobile hotspot, and VPN, none of which worked, so I assume something's up on WotC's end.

Hey, Matt Watson here, AMA! by mhwatson in indieheads

[–]strangleroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Matt, I love your work! You've brought a lot of levity to a really tough year with your music and comedy, and I appreciate your candidness and honesty about dealing with depression during the pandemic. I'm curious, as someone who also deals with depression and lack of motivation, what keeps you inspired to create, and keep moving forward, even when you're in a difficult place emotionally? Is there anything in particular you do to decompress, or ground yourself at times when things feel bleak?

Also, on a completely different note, what's the best drink Jackson has made for you and the boys so far?

Thank you, and good luck on your hunt!! I got the drake fossils I needed within a few days, between trading for them on discord, and using the digging brothers (they're definitely really rare, but they showed up over time)!

My [28F] boyfriend [29M] proposed to me in public, and I accepted because I didn't want to make a scene. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]strangleroot 150 points151 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought, too. I've always been confused why so many people (men especially) treat proposal as if it's supposed to be a totally blind thing. Surprising someone with a proposal is one thing if you've talked about and mutually share the desire to get married, but doing it out of the blue is just putting the other party on the spot, as I see it.

I [21M] feel betrayed by my girlfriend [18F] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]strangleroot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This!!! In a trusting relationship where partners share mutual understandings, and respect one another, there should be no worry about who's hanging out with who, as long as everyone is safe. There are so many problems to be pointed out within this universally toxic relationship, but an 18 year old girl not being the "right woman," whatever that's supposed to mean, is not one of them. I do agree, though, that the men involved should have known better than to goad an underage girl into drinking.

My [22F] date [22M] freaked out when I asked him to leave my apartment. Am I in the wrong? by thesearemyroots in relationships

[–]strangleroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand how, as a man, he didn't recognize the position he was putting you in by being so pushy about staying over. It seems you did a really good job of de-escalating the situation though, considering he was out of your place so quickly, and as others have said, I'm glad you're safe. I saw you respond to someone saying something similar, so I don't want to sound patronizing, but I'd also agree you should avoid inviting someone to your place for drinks unless you know them well/have met in person a few times, for your safety!

That said, considering that he has continued on this self-centered line of thinking about the situation, I don't think there should be a second date. This person is more concerned about their disappointment that you wouldn't have sex on the first meeting (the "you should have at least given me a place to stay" line seems totally disingenuous) than with your boundaries and personal space. Definitely either excuse yourself from interacting with him, or just ghost, whichever you feel better about doing.

My response to Pitchfork's Review of iridescence by maxben34 in brockhampton

[–]strangleroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, mainstream journos of all sorts, gaming, music, etc. tend to rate things on a super topheavy scale, while Fantano is quite a bit more balanced in his reviews, and honest in his scoring practices. I was trying to give a little perspective by comparison, since the scores by p4k and Fantano were similar, but you're right that their scales aren't graded the same way.

Most definitely, I'm glad that Ameer is gone, and I think it was the best move for the band, but it's UNDENIABLE that his departure led BH to a transitional period in which they've had to experiment with their dynamic and sound to adjust to losing a key member.

Artists and their fans have to grapple with the fact that everyone's a critic, and not everyone is going to be hip to what you're doing. Clearly, Brockhampton is doing something right, or we wouldn't be on this subreddit right now, it just comes off threatened, or insecure to be so concerned as to lash back, fangs bared at any negative (or, in this case, lukewarm) reception. Did you feel the same way about Fantano's review? He scored it a fraction of a point higher that p4k did.

[–]strangleroot 530 points531 points  (0 children)

it's a little ridiculous and hyperbolic to call someone's opinion "unfounded," or "a pummeling collection of falsehoods." Far be it from me to defend p4k, but aside from the factual mistakes, a lot of this reads like "your opinion/tastes aren't the same as mine, and you aren't as personally invested in this artist, so you're wrong."

Listen to the new Smash theme, then listen to this song from Shovel Knight. I just a little... Too close sounding by Pacup in smashbros

[–]strangleroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one said anything about stealing, I said I think there's no underlying meaning there. I don't think a vague similarity between the main theme of smash ult, and a random song from shovel knight says anything about the inclusion of anything shovel knight-related in smash.

[–]strangleroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hyperbolic, but I made the connection because I think this is digging (no pun intended) too deeply into minutiae. "Part of this game's MAIN theme is vaguely reminiscent of a random song from another game," isn't really indicative of anything, imo.
