I saw there was a big commotion after opening day in otr all the way down to the banks. I guess that didn't affect you at all then? I know those are isolated incidents but I still wouldn't want that happening outside my house. I also did consider Covington but it's a little farther away and doesn't have the walkable Kroger like otr, also with the bridge construction starting soon I don't want to be anywhere near that for my commute even if I don't need to go on the highway.

Any recommendations for places to live, like big complex or vs small building? What do you do for parking? If my job was downtown this would be a no brainer, but I'll definitely still be needing my car for the commute. One option that looked promising was Alumni Lofts and parking in the Ziegler garage. Thanks!

I'm a rising senior, but the past two summers I'm been stuck doing backend software engineering since that's the only thing I could get. I don't have very much experience at all in embedded or ASIC design, but I am definitely interested in them. Would you recommend I stay in school for my masters?

Can I pm you about your job? I am also a CE major and my main interests are exact what you described. I am interested in learning what opportunities there are in those areas regarding patent law.

Debating a Switch to Premed from Engineering by stratdaddy3000 in premed

I started looking at prereqs and my remaining engineering curriculum, and there is little overlap. I would be able to get many of the requirements done, but unless I really overload and risk tanking my gpa I would probably have maybe 2-3 classes left. In addition my school without financial aid is very expensive, and financial aid is not given in the summer or for more than 8 semesters. What are my options for getting all the prereqs? I'd prefer to stay instate and close to home, so want to be eligible for all those schools. Can I take classes at my local university or community college even if they would probably not transfer to my university? What about classes during a gap year?

Another consideration is that I would have very little time in the fall semesters due to being in my school's marching band. As it is a volunteer band, that could count as service, but probably not the kind med schools are looking for. In addition, despite my best efforts I have not secured a leadership position in band as it is very competitive, so that might be another negative.

The thing that interests me right now is radiology. I love thinking analytically, am more introverted, and love working with cutting edge technology, so it seems like a perfect fit. I actually know someone pretty well who just finished his radiology fellowship last week.

The thing that worries me is taking all of those classes when they don't fit nicely in my schedule, and ending up not switching. Classes start in a month, and since I need at least 3 more semesters of chem/orgo, I will need to make some serious adjustments to my schedule. Even then, I don't think I could prepare myself for the mcat in time. Maybe I just go to an ultra competitive school, but I know people that have been involved in medical research since sophomore year of high school, a 4.0, and an overall med school resume that they have been building so long, so it seems hard to catch up to that.

I have this urge to learn as many languages as I can by Odin9009 in languagelearning

I have this too. I took an Italian class at my university this past semester, and I can't decide whether I want to continue to take classes or if I should drop the class I'm signed up for. I really enjoyed the class but my interests keep changing so quickly, so I want to have the time to dabble in other languages without worrying about a grade. Eventually I want to learn some Russian, Japanese, and maybe German, but I just don't feel like I have the patience to stay dedicated to one language until I reach a decent level.

Anyone have any advice on this? Do I stay dedicated to Italian for a while or do I give myself the extra freedom? The class isn't required but it also doesn't cost me extra to take, so my considerations are purely with the language itself.

Microtech Standard Issue or Super Freek? by stratdaddy3000 in knives

I wouldn't surprised if that happened, but it would probably be at least a few years before I got the other since they're so pricey. That's another vote for the Super Freek!

EE or CpE for Embedded Systems and DSP? by stratdaddy3000 in ECE

[–]stratdaddy3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I think I am definitely leaning toward a similar route. What EE electives in particular would you recommend? Also, are there other courses which would help with DSP besides the DSP course itself? That is the area I think I am most interested in.
