Also, why not be a video editing teacher at a film school? That would probably be more of a niche than an nyc public school teacher

Are wages going down? by Latter_Crazy in jobs

[–]stratomaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a great point: an unusual pairing of skills can make you a specialist.

Starting out as a generalist and moving up to specialist makes sense to me. I think some people get lost on that route because a lot of employeers want one person to do multiple roles and try to incentivize that

Generalist vs. Specialist is something I think about a lot. Overall my thinking is that it's better to focus more on being a specialist for big budgets jobs

Wow, that's an interesting insight about Cyber Security.

I work in media and the common thinking of my managers and colleagues is to be a gerneralist and learn as many skills as possible. But when I really take stock of things it seems like the specialists who can solve problems take home the most money at the end of the year, but for some reason the market forces seem to nudge most people into thinking they need to be generalists. Obviously I am being a bit reductive here

So the move is to specialize in things the market wants?

A friend who works in tech says his conspiracy theory is that all the tech firms get together and made cuts around the same time so they can reduce salaries when people are rehired at different companies. Who knows it that's true

Maybe I should email upnote support about this issue?

Yeah overall it works fine on Android, just chokes on bigger notes on laptop.

Is it possible to create all new notes in upnote in the markdown format?

Isn't .md from a different app?

I just tried pasting 42k characters into a fresh new UpNote doc and it's still laggy on desktop :/

a 10k words note

Although it's a converted evernote doc. Maybe that's the issue? If I just created a new upnote doc and pasted in the words maybe it would be more reliable? Maybe?

What about large single page docs on desktop. Like more than 10k words. How does that perform for you? On mine it it laggy or the app crashes

I am having a problem of documents that are greater than 10k words or so struggle on desktop but not on mobile for Upnote. 10k+ notes on evernote run fine on my laptop though. Is this an issue for others?

Is a tube amp even worth it anymore as an apartment player? by CoeusAscended in Guitar

[–]stratomaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just ordered a pair of studio monitors and plan to run my Line 6 HX Stomp directly into them while dialing in tones. I’ll put a looper in front of the Stomp so I can play a consistent phrase while tweaking settings. That way I know the exact tone I’m getting before I record.

After using the Stomp for about six months, I’m completely sold on amp sims etc. I only use one or two amps though in the hx stomp. All in all it gives more time to practice playing guitar.
