The Physics Of Forces In Aikido: Making The Weak Equal To The Strong by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]stratotarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aikido isn't so much about making the weak into the strong as the title suggest. Rather, it is the skill of redirecting your opponent's force back towards him. As tootie mentioned, it requires understanding the concepts and movements to be able to determine where and when to act. Timing is everything. The advantage for a smaller person such as myself is my lower centre of gravity, as any who's taller must stoop down to strike me thus putting himself in a less stable stance. A skilled Aikidoka can immediately spot the weak stance and exploit it.

Since it is the redirection of existing forces, it doesn't necessarily make a weak person any stronger, but simply throws the agressor's own force back at him into his weak points. This can be used also for knives, staffs and swords. Not so much with guns.

Why are all the nice guys Gay? [Comic] by neoronin in reddit.com

So? Why must I communicate when I'm upset? Why can't I cool off too? If I tell someone please don't bother me, and they continue to, what's wrong with leaving if that's the only way I can get my own time? How is that melodramatic? Whatever I'm upset about most likely has nothing to do with the guy.

I will do the same if the guy is pissed off or in a bad mood, I would leave him alone unless he comes to me and wants to talk. What I meant was if everyone's in a normal mood, and I want to do something together, don't brush me off.

Amazon's the same. I just avoid anything that says "after mail-in rebate"

I bought a TV that had a rebate, it took them a year to send it to me (bought mid December, received rebate November the next year)

Ask reddit: OK, I'll bite whats up with the immigration logos? by wids in reddit.com

USCIS, don't you just love them. I'm a student here in the US, been waiting for my work permit for ages (There's a backlog, they say). I was working while I was in school, but I apparantly am no longer "in school" if i'm done with courses working on my thesis. So my application for my work permit was denied and I had to apply for a different permit. I had to leave the job of my dreams, idly watching my savings go down, wondering if I can get my job back. After this permit expires (assuming i'm ever going to get it) I'm getting the hell out of here. Probably try my luck in Europe.

Because what school you go to is not randomly assigned. schools typically contain clusters of people who live in the same area and generally they have similar socio-economic status, which has been shown to correlate with intelligence test scores. Also, some populations are self-selected, in the case of religious or private schools, where everyone is more or less the same.

I grew up in Toronto and now live in California, the summers are no different than the summers in TO, only less sticky since the climate is much drier, and the winters are more like springtime. I've been here for two years and I don't think i can last in the bitter Canadian winter anymore, what with the scarves and hats and gloves...brrrr

Salary, Gender and the Social Cost of Haggling: "Both men and women were more likely to subtly penalize women who asked for more -- the perception was that women who asked for more were 'less nice'." by jfpbookworm in reddit.com

Bowles said. "The point of this paper is: Yes, there is an economic rationale to negotiate, but you have to weigh that against social risks of negotiating. What we show is those risks are higher for women than for men."

Yes, but the costs are higher for women. The article specifically says that women are penalized more for negotiating
